QUALITY INSPECTOR & CMM OPERATOR

General Purpose of the Position
The general purpose of a Quality Inspector & CMM Operator is to provide first article, in-process, and final inspections supporting manufacturing needs while ensuring products adhere to the appropriate engineering and specifications. This role also includes operating and maintaining the CMM.

Major Work Functions and Desired Outcomes
The primary functions of a Quality Inspector & CMM Operator are to conduct various inspections—including First Article, in-process, and final inspections—using standard measuring equipment to determine product quality and to complete the required documentation reflecting inspection results.

The Inspector & CMM Operator is responsible for making informed decisions regarding the acceptance or rejection of products based on applicable specifications and engineering. Additionally, they must document inspection results in accordance with company policy and procedures, including controlling the identification and location of nonconforming products found during inspections.

Other responsibilities include documenting time and inspections using JobBoss, prioritizing inspection workloads to support organizational goals, mitigating the risk of production delays, and working with manufacturing personnel to resolve nonconformance issues discovered during inspection.

The role may also involve operating and maintaining the Zeiss G2 CMM Machine and requires fluency in GD&T, Calypso, and Catia annotation.

Essential vs. Non-Essential Functions
Essential skill sets and abilities include:

  • Ability to read blueprints

  • Proficiency in GD&T

  • Knowledge of Calypso (preferred)

  • Familiarity with Catia-annotation

  • Computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.)

  • Ability to use and read SME tools and perform layout inspections

  • Experience with an AS9100 quality management system

  • Experience with an effective calibration system

  • CMM operations experience and/or certification

Additional CMM-related tasks:

  • Ensure precision machinery is functional and properly calibrated

  • Determine programming requirements based on engineering designs

  • Operate precision machinery as needed

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent (experience may substitute)

  • Minimum 2 years of inspection experience and blueprint reading in a manufacturing environment

  • Minimum 2 years of CMM operation/programming experience (Zeiss G2 5-axis preferred)

  • Certification to operate/program CMM precision machinery required

  • Post-secondary education may substitute for experience

  • NDT Level I, II, or III in Fluorescent Penetrant Inspection is preferred but not required

  • Weld Inspector certification is preferred but not required

Physical and Environmental Requirements
The Inspector & CMM Operator must be able to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted and stand for extended periods while performing inspections. The role requires mobility and physical capability to conduct inspections throughout the manufacturing environment.
