Job Title: X-Ray Technician Level II
Department: Quality Control
Shift: 5:00 AM – 3:30 PM (Hours may vary based on business needs)
Pay Rate: $23/Hr
Position Summary:
The X-Ray Technician Level II is responsible for conducting non-destructive testing (NDT) using radiographic methods to inspect raw materials, fabricated components, and assembled parts for defects and conformance to specifications. This position involves the use of ionizing radiation (x-rays or gamma rays) to evaluate internal structures without damaging the parts. Duties include film processing, interpretation, equipment handling, and mentoring of Level I technicians.
Key Responsibilities:
• Conduct radiographic inspections of liquid/gas pipeline components, machined parts, and welds in accordance with customer and code requirements.
• Process and interpret radiographic film/images to detect internal flaws, inconsistencies, or deviations.
• Operate radiographic equipment and ensure safe use of ionizing radiation following all safety protocols.
• Utilize precision measuring instruments and advanced test equipment as needed.
• Document inspection results clearly and accurately.
• Mentor and guide Level I Radiographers; provide on-the-job training when applicable.
• Participate in quality, safety, and continuous improvement programs such as Kaizen, 5S, and productivity initiatives.
• Maintain compliance with internal policies related to safety, attendance, and work conduct.
• Work overtime and flexible hours based on production and inspection schedules.
Education & Experience Requirements:
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of 2 years completed at a technical school or university, or 75 hours of formal radiographic training.
• Minimum of 630 hours of hands-on radiographic work experience.
• Must obtain a state radiography certification within one year of employment.
• Working knowledge of Radiographic Testing (RT) and Penetrant Testing (PT) methods required.
• Ability to accept coaching, follow procedures, and work independently as well as within a team.
Physical Demands:
• Lift and transfer work materials (e.g., flanges, welding equipment) up to 18 lbs. frequently throughout the shift.
• Use hand tools requiring grip force up to 65 lbs.
• Roll and position pipe using a rolling bar (requires up to 20 lbs. of upper body force).
• Perform physical tasks including crouching, kneeling, climbing stairs (up to 60 steps/shift), and accessing low-clearance areas.
• Tolerate prolonged standing (up to 9 hours per 10-hour shift).
• Walk up to 1 mile per day across the worksite.
• Maintain sufficient vision (near, far, and depth) to operate tools safely and interpret visual data.
