Job Summary
We’re looking for a dedicated Microbiologist to support our Quality Department by performing microbiological testing, inspections, and environmental sampling. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, quick to adapt, and a strong team collaborator.
This position is ideal for someone with a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Microbiology or a related field in food science and a minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in a microbiology lab, preferably in a fast-paced food production environment. This role plays a key part in upholding product quality and food safety standards through meticulous testing and compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
Job Responsibilities
- Conduct microbial analysis on raw materials, in-process samples, and finished goods
- Perform environmental monitoring including air, water, and surface sampling
- Evaluate test results to ensure compliance with internal specifications and regulatory requirements
- Execute accurate microbiological assessments and communicate any deviations promptly
- Ensure all laboratory testing is conducted according to defined protocols and customer expectations
- Record, interpret, and report data following Good Documentation Practices (GDP)
- Input laboratory data into internal systems for trending and traceability
- Organize and maintain laboratory records and test documentation
- Comply with all safety, quality, and environmental policies including GMP and GLP
- Support training of new team members and validate their adherence to lab protocols
- Lead and participate in root cause analysis and CAPA processes related to microbial deviations
- Troubleshoot lab-related issues and escalate when needed
- Maintain inventory of lab supplies and initiate reorders as necessary
- Draft and revise Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), specifications, and related documentation
- Take on additional quality and compliance duties as assigned
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Microbiology or a related discipline in food science (preferred)
- At least 3 years of laboratory experience in microbiology, ideally within food manufacturing
- Strong command of aseptic technique and standard microbiological testing methods
- Familiarity with GLP, GMP, and environmental monitoring procedures
- Must be able to work flexible schedules, including weekends
- Comfortable working in production and industrial environments
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently while contributing to a team
- Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs
- Strong organizational and computer skills
