Job Summary:
The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for performing scheduled/unscheduled maintenance and installation tasks on the physical plant, equipment, and machinery according to standards. The Maintenance Mechanic actively leads the evolution of a robust Quality and Food Safety Culture by reinforcing the importance of Good Manufacturing. The position requires a demonstration of competency for all on-the-job activities that may directly or indirectly affect product safety, legality, and quality.
Job Responsibilities:
- Must comply with all company policies and procedures, including those related to Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO), Harassment, Safety, and Food Safety, BRC/SQF, etc)
- Ensures that all work activities of direct and indirect reports are performed with attention to the highest standards of food quality, safe processes, compliance with all appropriate legal requirements, and a focus on continuous process improvement.
- Inspects plant daily
- Establishes and maintains good employee relations.
- Reads, understands, interprets, and implements schematics and mechanical drawings.
- Equipment failure decisions to stop or get a break in the process for immediate repair. Change mode till down day.
- Modification or part substitution for part unavailable.
- Give proper training and guidance to lower levels. Training.
- Identify quality issues. Work towards solutions: product and efficiencies.
- Work with or get application help when needed to replace or build equipment
- Understand and become proficient in all plant PM’s
- Make good labor usage and problem criteria decisions if multiple problems exist. Take charge of circumstances.
- Know which issues to contact the maintenance manager or other management
- Must be able to troubleshoot and repair any mechanical issue with process equipment
- Must understand all normal process operations and determine the problem by symptom and point of process failure.
- MMI CTC knowledge of PLC hardware to field control point, operating status, hardware functions (fault, I/O addressing, power supply, operation indicators), and actions required for symptom. Card id. Ladder logic print reading for surface-level troubleshooting. (most times external hardware failure) Safely replace bad cards.
- Proficient in at least three trade skills. Plumbing, welding, electrical, machine tools, etc.
- Become familiar with control devices such as temp controls—burner controls, and other programmable devices you may need to replace. Understand how to read technical manuals.
- Assists in evaluating and preparing operating budgets.
- Advises management of potential damage or abuse to equipment or facilities.
- Performance of other duties that are deemed by management to be an integral part of the job, including but not limited to fulfillment of work schedules, adherence to attendance policies, and other applicable operating rules, policies, and procedures.
Education and Experience Needed:
- High School degree or equivalent required.
- Associate in Electronics/Electrical Technology and equivalent formal training or work experience.
- One or more year’s experience as a Production Operator or Technician and formal training or experience.
- Desired knowledge in Air Conditioning, Refrigeration, Welding, Electronics/Electrical Equipment repair, Industrial Equipment installation, start-up repair, etc.
- Preferred License as required by State, Industry, City, County (boiler, refrigeration, etc.) You may be required to possess/maintain a valid license to operate applicable heavy equipment, including forklifts.
- Industrial Equipment installation, start-up repair, etc.
- Ability to distinguish color-coded equipment. Must be able to hear and identify audible alarm systems. Must be able to hear, see, and identify normal and abnormal equipment status, monitor equipment operation, see panels, light controls, etc. Must have the ability to work in a 100-degree environment.

- Ability to read, comprehend, and practice necessary safety procedures, signs, etc. Must have ability to wear/use approved applicable safety equipment as needed.
- Must meet/maintain Center for Disease Control food handling and other governmental and customer requirements.
Working Conditions:
- Normal, no adverse or hazardous conditions
- Hand, arm, and finger dexterity is enough to perform complex wiring, welding, and written communication in extreme posture.
- Ability to stand (60%), walk (15%), kneel/squat (10%) and bend (15%) for 8 hours. Ability to lift 50 pounds from floor level to 36 inches regularly. Ability to reach from 4 inches up to 6 feet. Ability to climb stairs and maneuver under belts. Ability to use the back (twisting). Ability to push/pull the upper and whole body. Must be in good physical condition. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, a production worker is considered a medium physical demand level job, defined as occasionally exerting force of 20-50 pounds, frequently 10-25 pounds, and constantly up to 10 pounds. Based on the 150 lb. maximum lift, the position is defined as a cumbersome physical demand-level job
