About the job:

The Accounting Manager oversees day-to-day accounting operations, supervises financial transactions and reconciliations, manages special projects, and ensures compliance with financial reporting standards. Reporting to the Controller, this role requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and the ability to improve accounting systems and procedures.

 

We're looking for someone who:

  • Has a bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred)

  • Has 5+ years of progressively responsible accounting/finance experience, preferably in non-profit, education, or governmental organizations

  • Demonstrates strong leadership, decision-making, and supervisory experience in accounting operations

  • Possesses deep knowledge of GAAP and GASB, with experience in governmental and non-profit accounting

  • Has experience with internal control standards, financial compliance, and tax reporting

  • Is proficient in accounting enterprise systems, reporting tools, and advanced Excel functions

  • Has strong problem-solving and analytical skills to manage complex financial data

  • Communicates effectively with diverse stakeholders and can train and guide teams

 

 

What you'll do:

  • Supervise and manage accounting staff in accounts payable, accounts receivable, purchasing, general ledger, asset management, and banking reconciliation

  • Ensure financial transactions are accurately recorded and in compliance with regulations and accounting principles

  • Identify and resolve accounting discrepancies while providing consultative support to administrators

  • Interpret and implement financial regulations, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and organizational policies

  • Develop and improve accounting procedures, ensuring efficiencies and proper documentation

  • Assist in financial reporting and audits, preparing accruals, deferrals, and reconciliations

  • Oversee tax and compliance reporting, including 1099s, sales tax, non-resident withholding, and foreign withholding

  • Provide financial analysis and support, helping department managers navigate accounting software and reporting tools

  • Lead month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring accuracy in financial records
