Position Summary:
The bookkeeper will support the Director of Finance and will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records and assisting in financial management. The position will also ensure accurate and timely financial reporting. To do well in this role, you should have previous experience as a bookkeeper and have experience using QuickBooks Online.
Essential Responsibilities:

Maintain an organized system for recording financial transactions, including income (donations and grants) and expenses.

Record and maintain day to day financial transactions in QuickBooks, complete with descriptions and memos for each journal entry.

Ensure the accuracy and completeness of financial records.

Process payroll for salaried and hourly employees.

Allocate expenses (including payroll) to the correct location, program and donor.

Research vendor/invoice discrepancies.

Process and monitor a/p, ensuring timely payment of vendors and suppliers.

Systematically file and maintain all invoices, purchase receipts, purchase requests.

Manage and maintain all Vendor Approval Forms.

Ensure that W9s are on file for all 1099 vendors.

Process and record all state and local taxes.

Manage revenue and accounts receivable, including tracking donations and grants.

Prepare financial reports for grants.

Process all cash receipts.

Process Fresh Stop Market sales data.

Conduct month-end close of Sankofa’s books. Performing account analysis, reconciliations and adjusting journal entries in QuickBooks.

Assist the Director of Finance with budget management, including budget to actual reporting and revisions.

Contribute to financial analysis with the Director of Finance.

Other finance and budgeting tasks as needed.
Qualifications:

Proficient with QuickBooks Online and Microsoft Office.

Excellent knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles.

At least 5 years bookkeeping experience, preferably within a non-profit environment.

Able to prepare, review and understand a financial statement.

Attention to detail and accuracy of work with the ability to meet deadlines.

Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
