Our client is looking for a Maintenance Technician in Altoona, Iowa.


Primary Responsibilities:

 • Follow Lockout Tagout procedures set forth by the organization.

 • Full understanding of NFPA 70E and Arc flash requirements. 

• Provides maintenance support required to sustain continuous operation of packaging and processing equipment.

 • Complete all daily paperwork and walk through items and understand their importance. 

• Ensures compliance to quality, food safety, HAACP, 5S and OSHA support programs; assures conformity to all company, customer and government standards. 

• Attempts to identify problems before they result in a hazard or downtime situation through PMs and inspections.

 • Assists in major overhauls of plant equipment and performs minor repairs to all plant equipment.

 • Lubricates all machinery with the correct lubricants.

 • Changes drive belts, timing belts and other parts on all machinery. 

• Changes filters and oils in plant equipment. 

• Changes packing/mechanical seal and gaskets in all pumps. 

• Maintains water chemistry in necessary systems. 

• Identifies and replaces bearings and seals as required. 

• Maintains company standards for cleanliness, safety and productivity in the plant area. 

• Performs minor repairs to coders and labelers.

 • Basic understanding of a refrigeration system, demonstrate ability to identify main components and function by 90 days. 

• Maintain, clean, and inspect all HVAC units on property. 

• Maintains, repairs, tracks, and adjusts conveyor belts.

 • Identifies and installs piping: Locates damaged air and hydraulic pipes on machine, measures, cuts, threads and installs new pipe.

 • Repairs and places electric motors (single or 3-phase). Must have a good working knowledge of electrical motors, starters, controls, switches, receptacles, lights and light fixtures, and the maintenance thereof. 

• Repairs and replaces vari-drives, speed reducers, vacuum pumps, and product pumps. 

• Ability to wire and troubleshoot a Start/Stop circuit 

• Perform monthly checks including safety and food safety such as fire extinguishers check

 • Paints and/or repairs any surfaces in or around the building and grounds.

 • Welding- TIG, MIG and arc weld on carbon and stainless steel. 

• Sets up and operates tools such as drill press or grinder to make or repair parts.


Qualification Requirements: • High school diploma or GED certificate required; 2-year degree from technical school preferred. • 1-3 years Degreed or 3-5 nondegree years prior industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in the food industry. 

• Basic mechanical aptitude, basic math skills and ability to use basic gauges and measuring tools are required. Proficiency in PLC programming, blueprint interpretation, VFD setups, Knowledge in pneumatics/hydraulics, Experience in electrical including 480v, electrical motors, 3 phase circuit/sensors, Experience in heavy equipment troubleshooting
