On Call Registered Nurse (RN) - Mental Health Facility

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will play a vital role in the mental health treatment team, providing exceptional patient care and promoting recovery and wellness.


Job Summary: As a Registered Nurse (RN) in our mental health facility, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality psychiatric nursing care to patients of all ages who are living with various mental health conditions. Working closely with a multidisciplinary team, you will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care interventions to support their mental health recovery journey. Your passion for mental health advocacy and your commitment to patient-centered care will be crucial in fostering a safe and healing environment for our patients.


Responsibilities: 

  • Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments, including evaluating the patient's psychiatric history, symptoms, and risk factors.
  • Develop and implement individualized nursing care plans based on the patient's unique mental health needs and treatment goals.
  • Administer prescribed psychiatric medications and monitor their effects, documenting any side effects or adverse reactions.
  • Provide therapeutic interventions and support to patients, using evidence-based practices and ensuring a trauma-informed approach.
  • Collaborate with psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and other mental health professionals to create integrated treatment plans.
  • Monitor patient progress and adjust treatment interventions as necessary to achieve positive outcomes.
  • Educate patients and their families about mental health conditions, medications, coping strategies, and resources available for ongoing support.
  • Ensure a safe and therapeutic environment for patients, adhering to facility protocols and maintaining patient confidentiality.
  • Respond promptly to psychiatric crises and implement appropriate interventions to deescalate situations and maintain a safe environment.
  • Participate in patient and family support groups, therapy sessions, and educational programs as a mental health advocate.
  • Adhere to all regulatory guidelines, including state and federal laws related to mental health treatment and patient care.
  • Document all patient interactions, treatments, and progress notes accurately and promptly in the electronic health record (EHR) system.


Qualifications:

  • Valid and current Oregon state RN license.
  • Ideally a bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred or associate degree in Nursing (ADN) with relevant experience.
  • Previous experience in mental health nursing or psychiatric care is highly desirable.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) and CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) certifications are preferred.
  • Strong understanding of mental health disorders, treatment modalities, and psychotropic medications.
  • Empathetic, non-judgmental, and able to establish therapeutic relationships with patients from diverse backgrounds.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team and engage with patients and their families.
  • Ability to remain calm and composed during psychiatric crises and respond appropriately to challenging situations.
  • Knowledgeable about mental health laws and regulations, including patient rights and confidentiality.
  • Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems and other relevant healthcare technology.


Hours: Flexible hours and shifts, schedule to be arranged with employer.

Pay: $38.19/hour + DOE
