Personnel Source is seeking a Safety Associate to join our Harrisburg client’s trucking company team!


This hybrid position is a fulltime position with overtime when necessary. The Orientation Facilitator is charged with successfully onboarding new professional drivers to the company. As the Trainer you are responsible for completing In House Hazmat Training, Hazmat Endorsement Training, In Truck Training (as needed) and ongoing driver training. As the Safety Assoc. you will work with Operations and the Safety Manager to assist drivers and the company in maintaining compliance with FMCSA, PHMSA, OSHA, SBI Policies and Procedures and maintain a standard of Safety for SB, Inc. The Driver will work with Operations and the Shop as needed to pick up & Deliver loads, take equipment to repair shops, tow equipment to repair shops and other duties requiring a CDL A with endorsements.


Qualifications: This position requires you to possess a valid Class A CDL with Hazardous Materials, Tanker, and Doubles/Triples Endorsements and a valid medical card. A thorough understanding of the trucking industry to include the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations and the Pipeline Hazardous Materials Safety Administration regulations pertaining to Transportation of Liquid Bulk products. Knowledge, of State and Federal regulations. Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office specifically Word, Excel, and Outlook. Ability to work with a diverse group of people and personalities. Supervisory Skills, attention to detail, excellent written and verbal communication and self-motivation is a must.


Qualifications of Order Entry Representative:

  • Demonstrated good organizational, data entry and customer service skills.
  • The ability to build relationships with customers and drivers and work well within a team environment.
  • This position requires the ability to accurately enter orders into the computer in an efficient manner and deal with lots of details.


What to Expect:

  • This position is temp-to-hire. Typical hours are Monday – Friday, 7:00am – 4:00pm

Essential Functions:

Orientation

A. Prospective Drivers

a. Coordinate road tests with Operations and Safety Manager when necessary.

b. Provide new drivers with knowledge of SB, Inc. Policies and Procedures.

c. Conduct basic testing of knowledge skills.

d. Verify all Orientation documents are completed.

e. Maintain and assist with updating manuals and materials used in orientation.


Safety and Compliance

A. DOT

1. Be knowledgeable of policies and procedures for compliance with State and Federal DOT regulations

a. Drug & Alcohol testing

b. Security

c. FMCSA

d. Inform and make recommendations of changes in compliance


B. Safety Programs

1. Review and monitor SMS scores

a. Challenge citations using DataQ when necessary

b. Report on changes to SMS scores

d. Implement improvements

e. Use this data to improve driver training

2. Work with customer service and operations on special loads and safe ways to transport products.

3. Monitor compliance issues within and between departments

4. Work with drivers as necessary with safety/compliance related issues.

5. Communicate with Customers, Drivers, Operations, & Sales to increase participation in our Safety Culture.

6. Evaluate all facets of the safety program and implement changes.

7. Make recommendations on improving policies, procedures, equipment purchases, etc.


Evaluations

A. Driver Training

1. Coordinate information gathered through various information sources to enhance Driver Training & Orientation.

2. Monitor training process and progress of all hires.

3. Perform recurrent driver evaluations

4. Conduct new hire Road Tests

5. Basic new hire training and recurrent training for all drivers.

6. Make sure Digital Training folders have all required documents & are completed properly.


Log Auditing

1. Assist DMs with log issues

2. Mentor drivers with ELD problems and concerns

3. Assist drivers with HOS compliance & log issues

4. Be aware of changes to FMCSA log regulations


Miscellaneous

A. Perform monthly Fire Extinguisher inspections of the office.

B. Be available to respond to emergency situations including overnight stays when necessary.

C. Be responsible for the “After Hours” emergency phone line.

D. Learn the operations of the Company Tow Truck and be able to recover trucks or trailers.

E. Be available to travel to other states to perform necessary safety functions with drivers, shippers, consignees, etc.

F. Must be able to perform Pre-trip, in- transit, and Post-trip inspections on equipment

G. Perform in Truck Training for Flatbed, Dump Truck, & Tanker drivers.

H. Pickup and deliver loads using a Flatbed (tarping), Dump Truck or Tanker.

I. Work with Driver Trainers to make sure Training is consistent & to the highest standards.

J. Assist Safety Manager and Operations with Driver reviews.

K. Perform other duties as necessary.


Work Environment:

Professional environment: Involves 30% sitting and working at a computer/video display terminal and 40% walking, gathering information, and assisting drivers and 30% driving duties. General working hours are 7:00am – 4:00pm Monday through Friday. These hours and days may change based on work load and special events/meetings.



Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing; able to sit for long periods of time. Must be able to type on a keyboard.
  • Must be willing and able to lift, carry, push and/or pull up to 50 lbs to include tarping and un-tarping when necessary.
  • Must be able to perform the necessary tasks involved with driving flatbeds, dump trucks, tow truck, and liquid bulk tanker.
