Job Title: Brake Press Operator
Position Summary:
The Brake Press Operator is a vital role in the manufacturing process, responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining Amada® and Safan Darley® brake press machinery to bend and form metal parts according to precise specifications. This position requires a skilled operator with experience in metal fabrication and a keen eye for detail. The Brake Press Operator will interpret engineering drawings and blueprints to determine the appropriate bending sequences and angles, select the correct tooling, and adjust machine settings accordingly. Responsibilities also include inspecting finished parts for quality and accuracy, troubleshooting equipment issues, and performing routine maintenance to ensure optimal performance. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical skills, including the ability to read and interpret technical drawings, along with a commitment to safety and quality standards. Effective communication and teamwork are essential for collaborating with colleagues to meet production targets and deliver high-quality products to customers.
Essential Functions
• Machine Setup: Set up and prepare brake press machinery for operation by selecting appropriate tooling, installing dies, and adjusting machine settings such as tonnage, stroke length, and back gauge positions.
• Material Handling: Load raw materials, typically metal sheets or plates, onto the brake press machine, ensuring proper alignment and placement for bending operations.
• Reading Blueprints: Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and job orders to understand bending sequences, dimensions, tolerances, and other specifications required for the fabrication of metal parts.
• Bending Operations: Operate the brake press machine to accurately bend and form metal parts according to specified angles, dimensions, and tolerances, following established procedures and safety protocols.
• Quality Control: Inspect finished parts for defects, accuracy, and conformance to quality standards using precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges.
• Troubleshooting: Identify and troubleshoot equipment malfunctions, process deviations, or quality issues during production, taking corrective actions to maintain product quality and efficiency.
• Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance tasks on brake press machinery, including cleaning, lubricating, and replacing worn or damaged tooling and components, to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
• Carrying & lifting 10 – 50lbs. frequently
Education and Experience
• High school diploma or GED equivalent
• 2+ years set-up and operating experience, preferably with Amada® HFB-FBD or Safan Darley® equipment
• Solid background working with sheet metal
• Knowledge of tooling and tool maintenance
• Proven measurement and mathematical fraction/decimal and metric conversion skills
• Ability to read blueprints
• Ability to distinguish material types including aluminum, steel and stainless steel
Shift: Mon-Thur 5am -3:30pm
