Job Title: Fabricator/Welder

The Fabricator/Welder plays a crucial role in the manufacturing process, responsible for fabricating and welding metal components and structures according to engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications. This role requires a skilled professional with expertise in metal fabrication techniques, welding processes, and equipment operation. Interpret technical drawings, select appropriate materials, and use various tools and machinery to cut, shape, and assemble metal parts. Responsibilities also include operating welding equipment to join metal components using MIG, TIG, or stick welding techniques, and performing quality inspections to ensure structural integrity and adherence to welding standards. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical skills, including proficiency in welding procedures and metalworking tools.

Essential Functions

• Interpretation of Technical Drawings: Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications to understand fabrication and welding requirements for metal components and structures.

• Material Preparation: Select appropriate materials based on project specifications, and prepare metal surfaces by cutting, grinding, and cleaning to ensure proper fit-up and weldability.

• Fabrication Techniques: Utilize metalworking tools and equipment such as saws, drills, shears, and bending machines to cut, shape, and form metal parts according to design requirements.

• Welding Operations: Perform welding operations using various techniques, including MIG (Metal Inert Gas), TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas), or stick welding, to join metal components together with precision and structural integrity.

• Welding Procedure Compliance: Adhere to welding procedures, standards, and specifications, ensuring that welds meet quality and code requirements for strength, durability, and appearance.

• Weld Inspection: Conduct visual and non-destructive testing (NDT) inspections of welded joints to verify weld quality, detect defects, and ensure compliance with welding standards and specifications.

• Quality Assurance: Monitor fabrication and welding processes to maintain quality standards and prevent defects, identifying and addressing issues promptly to meet project requirements and customer expectations.

• Documentation: Maintain accurate records of fabrication and welding activities, including material usage, welding parameters, inspection results, and project documentation, to ensure traceability and compliance with quality assurance procedures.

Requirements

• Ability to handle and work with various types of metals and alloys, including steel, aluminum, stainless steel, and others, understanding their properties and characteristics for fabrication and welding.

• Experience in conducting visual inspections and non-destructive testing (NDT) of welded joints to ensure weld quality, detect defects, and comply with welding standards and specifications.

• Knowledge of safety protocols and guidelines for welding operations, including proper handling of welding equipment, use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and adherence to safety procedures to prevent accidents or injuries.

• Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy materials, standing for extended periods, and working in various positions and environments, often in confined spaces or at heights.

Education and Experience

•A minimum of 5 years’ experience as a welder, preferably in a manufacturing environment

•Experience using a variety of welding equipment and procedures (TIG, MMA, etc.)

•Experience in using electrical or manual tools (saws, squares, calipers etc.)

•Knowledge of relative safety standards and willingness to use protective clothing (face-shield, gloves etc.) Must have own face-shield.

•Ability to read and interpret blueprints and designs

•Professional Certification (i.e., an AWS welding certificate) will be a plus
