Our client, a reputable financial institution, is seeking a Legal Assistant to support its Legal Department in ensuring efficient day-to-day legal operations. This role reports directly to the General Counsel and is responsible for preparing and managing legal documents and correspondence, coordinating internal investigations and document searches, organizing meetings and schedules, prioritizing legal projects, and supporting corporate governance initiatives. The ideal candidate will play a key role in enhancing the department’s overall productivity and legal service quality.
Pay: $28.00–$32.00 per hour, depending on experience.
Employment Type: Direct hire — this position requires the Legal Assistant to work onsite.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Draft, review, and manage legal documents; support General Counsel with compliance across mortgage lending, employment law, contracts, and administrative matters.
- Provide high-level support to General Counsel including calendar management, travel coordination, and legal correspondence.
- Maintain corporate records, draft key governance documents, manage ESOP-related activities, and engage with executive leadership and board members.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external counsel on legal proceedings, discovery, and trial readiness; coordinate witness communication and document searches.
- Organize and maintain legal files; lead due diligence processes by collecting and producing corporate documentation for transactional activities.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- 2–3 years of experience as a legal assistant or paralegal in a corporate legal setting; preferred background in the mortgage industry. Associate degree in paralegal studies or related field preferred; paralegal certificate is a plus.
- Strong written and verbal communication, basic math proficiency, solid reasoning skills, and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and tools like DocuSign
- Draft and review contracts, support compliance with mortgage lending and broader business laws, and assist with legal proceedings.
- Manage calendars, meetings, travel, and legal correspondence for General Counsel.
- Maintain confidential records, draft governance documents, support board meetings, and manage ESOP and stock-related matters.
- Coordinate civil and administrative legal support, discovery, and trial logistics in collaboration with internal and external legal teams.
- Organize legal files and collect documentation for transactions like M&A and private equity deals.
