We are seeking a Human Resources Director to lead and optimize HR functions for our client, a prominent specialized construction company based in the greater Sacramento region with multi-state presence. This key leadership role is responsible for driving employee relations, talent acquisition, performance management, compliance, training, and organizational culture across all companies. The HR Director will collaborate with executive leadership to align HR strategies with business objectives, ensuring a compliant, safe, and high-performance work environment.
Salary: $140,000-$160,000 per year depending on experience.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervise, mentor, and develop HR staff while driving department accountability and KPI achievement. Lead strategic HR initiatives, including workforce planning, organizational structure, and M&A efforts.
- Oversee recruitment, onboarding, and retention programs to attract and maintain top talent. Develop succession planning strategies and workforce pipelines through apprenticeships or trade partnerships.
- Foster a positive, compliant workplace aligned with core values. Address complex employee relations matters, implement performance reviews, and execute employee development initiatives.
- Ensure adherence to employment laws and maintain HR policies across all entities. Coordinate compliance efforts with Safety and DOT teams for joint initiatives.
- Develop competitive compensation structures in collaboration with Finance and Executive Leadership. Oversee benefits administration, payroll, and vendor partnerships for HRIS management.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in HR, Business Administration, or related field; SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, or PHR/SPHR certification.
- 7+ years of progressive HR experience, including 2+ years in leadership roles within field and office-based workforces.
- Strong background in construction, utilities, or industrial services, with proficiency in HRIS platforms.
- Deep knowledge of employment law, HR compliance in multi-entity operations, and experience with unions and collective bargaining agreements.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects, maintain accurate records, and thrive in fast-paced environments while prioritizing competing demands.
