We are recruiting for a Senior Benefits Specialist to provide support to the Human Resources department with a rapidly growing company in Sacramento. This pivotal role involves the day-to-day management of medical, dental, vision, HSA, FSA, COBRA, life insurance, and voluntary benefits.

Salary Range: $85,000 - $95,000 per year depending on experience. Work Arrangement: Hybrid model requiring in-office presence 3 days per week and the flexibility to work remotely 2 days per week upon completion of training. In addition, there are opportunities for professional growth and a competitive 401(k) match of 4%


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Administers health, welfare, and retirement plans, ensuring compliance with laws and company policies, including implementation, processing, communication, and recordkeeping.
  • Provides support to employees and managers by offering routine technical information, functional guidance on benefits, and manages inquiries via the benefits email.
  • Handles employee escalations, administers the San Francisco Health Care Security Ordinance and PPACA, and troubleshoots benefit-related issues in the HRIS.
  • Manages daily benefits processing (enrollments, COBRA, terminations, status changes), monitors leave of absence benefits, prepares basic reports, and conducts new hire benefits orientations.
  • Leads employee education (Open Enrollment, new hires), manages wellness programs, distributes benefit communications, administers retirement plans, and assists with benefit integration during acquisitions.


SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Requires a bachelor's degree in HR, business, or a related field (or 7 years of equivalent experience).
  • Possesses at least 5 years of experience in fully insured and self-insured health benefit plan operations, preferably with plans covering 1,000+ employees.
  • Demonstrates a strong understanding of benefit-related laws including COBRA, HIPAA, ERISA, and PPACA.
  • Proficient in computer applications (Microsoft Office Suite) and HRIS systems, with experience using data for analysis and decision-making.
  • Exhibits strong communication (oral and written), organizational, collaboration, documentation, and presentation skills, along with adherence to ethical and confidentiality guidelines.
  • Displays superior customer service, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with reliability, dependability, flexibility, and effective interpersonal abilities; GBA, CEBS, or CBP certification is a plus.
