We are recruiting for a Payroll Specialist to join a respected non-profit organization in the greater Sacramento area. This is a direct hire opportunity offering an outstanding benefits package, including 14 paid holidays, paid sick leave, generous PTO, and additional rewards.


The Payroll Specialist will be responsible for managing complex hands-on payroll, ensuring accurate and timely compensation for 400+ employees. This position requires strong analytical skills, proficiency in various payroll systems, and payroll reporting. The qualified candidate will bring exceptional attention to detail in managing payroll for mid-size company.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Execute timely and accurate payroll using software like ADP, including wages, bonuses, deductions, and overtime.
  • Maintain payroll and accounting records, ensure tax and regulatory compliance, and support audits by staying current with laws and policies.
  • Address payroll discrepancies and employee concerns while upholding confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions.
  • Coordinate with HR, Finance, and department leaders to update employee data, support budgeting, and propose data-driven improvements.
  • Generate payroll reports for leadership and conduct regular audits to ensure data integrity and support financial analysis.
  • Serve as the point of contact for HRIS/payroll providers, assist with strategic initiatives, and perform additional duties as needed.


SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or related field preferred
  • 5+ years of managing manual payroll processing required.  
  • 2+ years of accounting is highly preferred.
  • Advance in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word; able to quickly learn proprietary software and apply it effectively.
  • Demonstrates strong reasoning, mathematical, and logical thinking abilities with sound judgment and discretion.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; able to collaborate effectively across teams and maintain professionalism.
  • Highly organized with attention to detail; dependable attendance and flexibility to adapt to changing schedules.
