Heavy Equipment Mechanic
Our client, a well-established and fast-paced company with over 38 years in business, is looking for a skilled Mechanic to join their team in the Portland area. Specializing in forklifts and heavy equipment, they provide a full range of services, including maintenance, repairs, and a robust rental fleet featuring forklifts, scissor lifts, and telehandlers.

LOCATION: Portland, OR
SALARY: $30-40/hr. (DOE)
SCHEDULE: Full-time | 7 am-4 pm | Direct Hire
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide exceptional customer service by troubleshooting and repairing various heavy equipment brands, using technical expertise to ensure equipment operate efficiently and maintain client relationships.
- Manage customer accounts, coordinate service calls, and travel to job sites for timely equipment repairs or maintenance, as directed by the home office.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of heavy equipment brands and technologies, including Tailift, Linde, Hyster, and Toyota, to deliver effective and competent service.
- Diagnose and repair gas, propane, and diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and electrical components, utilizing diagnostic software and OBD-II tools to troubleshoot error codes and engine issues.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
- 5+ years of experience as a heavy equipment or forklift mechanic: Over five years of experience in diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing heavy equipment and forklifts to ensure maximum operational efficiency.
- Strong customer service skills and industry knowledge: Excellent communication and technical expertise to provide outstanding customer service and build long-term professional relationships.
- Familiar with various brands (e.g., Tailift, Linde, Hyster, Toyota, JLG): Experienced in servicing and repairing a wide variety of equipment brands, including Tailift, Linde, Hyster, Toyota, and JLG.
- Advanced knowledge of engines, hydraulic systems, and diagnostic tools: In-depth knowledge of gas, propane, and diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and electrical systems, with expertise in using advanced diagnostic software and schematics to resolve issues efficiently.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to lift and move heavy equipment (up to 50 lbs or more): Skilled in safely lifting and transporting heavy equipment and parts.
- Comfortable in physically demanding environments: Adaptable to working in challenging conditions, including outdoor settings and adverse weather.
- Able to crouch, kneel, bend, and crawl: Skilled in accessing mechanical and electrical components in tight or awkward spaces.
- Proficient with hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment: Experienced in using tools and equipment effectively in diverse conditions.
