Payroll Tax Accountant

LOCATION: Greater Portland, OR
SALARY: $50,000 - $65,000 annually
SCHEDULE: Full-Time, Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Polls electronic time clocks and applies data to payroll software.
• Troubleshoots technical issues, working with IT to resolve them.
• Contacts supervisors for correct documentation and resolves time discrepancies.
• Enters payroll information into HRIS and timekeeping software.
• Compiles and processes payroll data such as garnishments, leave requests, and direct deposits.
• Prepares manual checks and processes payroll funding.
• Runs paychecks and ensures accurate direct deposit processing.
• Calculates taxes and prepares reports for tax filings.
• Processes W-2 forms and assists with tax filings.
• Resolves discrepancies in payroll records and accounts.
• Prepares weekly, monthly, quarterly, and year-end reports for management.
• Reconciles payroll accounts and resolves discrepancies.
• Uploads payroll journals into FE and ensures accuracy of financial records.
• Works with HR to ensure accurate employee data and maintains updated records.
• Supports the payroll department with auditing records and ensuring compliance.
• Assists in payroll training and provides technical support to staff.
• Provides backup support for payroll processes when needed.
• Maintains positive, professional communication with staff across the agency.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
• Education Requirements: High School Diploma or equivalent; associate’s degree preferred.
• Experience Requirements: Minimum of 3 years of payroll experience or related clerical experience.
• Certification Requirements: Knowledge of payroll laws and regulations; experience with HRIS and payroll systems preferred.
• Skills: Strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and ability to troubleshoot payroll issues.
• Technical Skills: Strong working knowledge of Excel.
• Ideal: Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus, but not required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
• The position performs general office duties in a temperature-controlled environment.
