Building Systems Engineer – HVAC Mechanical Engineer

Nexeo HR Staffing is hiring an HVAC Mechanical Engineer for a direct-hire, full-time, on-site role in Ogden, UT, supporting the design of large, mission-critical facilities. This position focuses on facility-level HVAC and mechanical systems, including ventilation, safety systems, airflow analysis, and equipment selection within highly regulated environments.

This role is best suited for engineers with experience designing HVAC systems for complex facilities such as power plants, refineries, chemical processing facilities, energy or nuclear sites, data centers, or large industrial infrastructure. Candidates whose background is limited to commercial tenant fit-outs or light residential HVAC will not be a fit.

Responsibilities

• Collect HVAC, safety, and system requirements for facility-level mechanical systems
• Design HVAC systems and specify equipment to meet technical, safety, and regulatory requirements
• Perform airflow calculations and system sizing for complex mechanical environments
• Develop and revise:
• Ventilation diagrams
• Instrument diagrams
• Formal calculations
• Equipment datasheets and specifications
• Coordinate with multi-disciplinary engineering teams to develop detailed system designs
• Support equipment procurement in accordance with quality assurance requirements
• Prepare reports and technical studies to resolve open system or process issues
• Support safety analyses and hazard evaluations
• Ensure designs comply with industry codes, standards, and regulatory guides

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

U.S. Citizenship required

Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance

Ability to pass a background check and drug screening (including marijuana)

Valid Real ID-compliant driver’s license or state ID

Facility-focused HVAC engineering experience (required)

Power plants

Refineries

Chemical processing facilities

Energy, nuclear, or critical infrastructure

Experience with:

HVAC system design and construction

Airflow calculations for complex systems

HVAC equipment selection

Strong knowledge of industry and regulatory codes and standards

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Nuclear, or Chemical Engineering from an accredited institution

Mid-Level: 2+ years of HVAC system design experience

Senior-Level: 6+ years of HVAC system design experience

Senior-level engineers with deep facilities experience are strongly encouraged to apply.

?? Preferred / Highly Desired Experience

Experience working with equipment vendors and procurement teams

Experience with CGD and/or Environmental Equipment Qualification

Passed Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam

Experience using:

Trane TRACE™ 700

VariTrane™ Duct Designer

Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Prior experience supporting government agencies, preferably DOE or DoD

Long-term project history demonstrating technical depth and professionalism90,000 – $185,000 DOE

Schedule

Monday- Friday 8a-5p | 100% Onsite | 9x80 Schedule (Every Other Friday Off)
