Nexeo HR is hiring an experienced Senior Plant Designer to join a high-performing engineering team supporting the U.S. Air Force Sentinel (GBSD) program in Ogden, Utah. In this role, you will lead the planning, development, and review of Plant Design and Piping (PD&P) work for large-scale infrastructure projects, ensuring compliance with complex codes and standards.

This position plays a key role in one of the nation’s most critical defense modernization initiatives, upgrading the Minuteman III ICBM system—an essential component of the U.S. nuclear triad. The ideal candidate will bring advanced 3D modeling skills, hands-on design experience, and the ability to coordinate with engineers, construction teams, and government stakeholders.

This opportunity offers paid overtime, a 9x80 schedule (every other Friday off), and relocation support for qualified candidates.

Responsibilities

• Plan, develop, and review Plant Design and Piping (PD&P) design work, drawings, and documentation for DoD and USAF projects.

• Create and manage 3D designs and floor plans using SmartPlant S3D for piping, HVAC, and equipment layouts.

• Coordinate multi-discipline 3D models, resolving interferences and ensuring spatial accuracy.

• Interface with engineering, construction, and vendor teams to maintain design integrity and space control.

• Ensure compliance with OSHA, NFPA, IBC, ASME B31.3, and ASHRAE codes and standards.

• Review design deliverables for quality, constructability, and technical accuracy.

• Lead constructability reviews and collaborate with clients and contractors to resolve design issues.

• Develop PD&P systems for complex infrastructure, including drainage, foundations, and steel detailing.

• Prepare material requisitions, bid evaluations, design estimates, and work plans.

• Provide mentorship and guidance to junior designers and CAD drafters.

• Communicate technical challenges to project management and recommend effective solutions.

Qualifications

• U.S. Citizenship required (for federal access and clearance eligibility).

• Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance.

• Must possess a Real ID-compliant driver’s license or state-issued ID.

• Must pass a pre-employment background check and drug screening (including marijuana).

• Experience using SmartPlant 3D software.

• Proven experience supporting DoD, DoE, USACE, NAVFAC, or USAF programs.

• High School diploma and 9+ years of relevant experience, or an Associate degree in Engineering/CAD with 7+ years of experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous Bechtel project experience.

• Strong collaboration and communication skills in multi-discipline design teams.

• Demonstrated ability to mentor and lead junior design staff.

Pay

$95,000 – $128,000 per year
