Position Summary The CNC Machine Setup Technician is responsible for independently setting up and operating CNC machining equipment, with a strong emphasis on Mazak brand machines. This role requires a deep understanding of machining principles, tooling, and work holding techniques to ensure efficient and accurate production of precision components. Essential Duties and Responsibilities • Independently set up Mazak CNC lathes, mills, and machining centers for production and prototype work. • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and setup sheets to determine machining requirements. • Select, install, and verify tooling, fixtures, and work holding devices appropriate for each job. • Perform machine offsets, tool changes, and program edits using Mazatrol and G-code as needed. • Conduct first article inspections and verify part dimensions using precision measuring instruments. • Apply best machining practices to optimize cycle times, surface finish, and tool life. • Troubleshoot setup issues and adjust maintain part quality and minimize downtime. • Maintain accurate documentation of setups, tooling, and process improvements. • Follow all safety, quality, and housekeeping standards. Qualifications • Minimum 3 years of experience in CNC machine setup, with a focus on Mazak equipment. • Proficiency in Mazatrol controls and G-code programming. • Strong knowledge of tooling requirements, machining processes, and work holding techniques. • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and GD&T. • Skilled in the use of precision measuring tools (e.g., micrometers, calipers, indicators). • Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple setups efficiently. Preferred Qualifications • Experience with Mazak QuickTurn 250MSY, 500A vertical mills, other multi-axis machining centers. • Familiarity with SMED practices, lean manufacturing and continuous improvement techniques. • Basic CNC programming and editing skills. Work Environment: Manufacturing environment with exposure to machinery, noise, and shop materials. Standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 40 lbs regularly. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) required. Travel: No travel is required.
