Substance Abuse Counselor – Temp to Hire

Pay: $28.85 to $31.25 per hour

About the Role

We are recruiting for a respected behavioral health nonprofit that has served the Inland Empire for more than 30 years. This is a Temp-to-Hire opportunity with consistent hours, supportive leadership, and meaningful clinical work.

As a Substance Abuse Counselor, you will provide individual therapy, group counseling, assessments, crisis intervention, and ongoing support for adults in recovery. You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team to ensure clients receive complete, compassionate care.

What You Will Do

• Provide individual and group substance use counseling

• Facilitate treatment using CBT, DBT, MI, Seeking Safety and other evidence-based approaches

• Conduct assessments such as GAD-7, PHQ-9, C-SSRS, AUDIT-C, DAST-10

• Deliver crisis intervention and develop safety plans

• Create and maintain treatment plans and progress notes

• Coordinate care with mental health providers, medical staff, and case managers

• Support clients with resources, education, and recovery tools

• Participate in required trainings and team meetings

Qualifications

• 2+ years experience working with substance use disorders or addiction recovery

• Experience with trauma, co-occurring disorders, LGBTQ+ clients, and diverse populations

• Strong communication, documentation, and counseling skills

• Knowledge of addiction, recovery, and family systems

• Ability to maintain ethical and confidential standards

Preferred (Not Required):

• CADC-I, CADC-II, CADC-III, RADT, CCAPP, CAADE, CADTP

• AMFT, ACSW, APCC or licensed clinicians (LMFT, LCSW, LPCC)

• MAT program experience

Schedule

• Full Time, Monday–Friday

• Regular shift: 8:45 AM – 5:30 PM

• Some evening work as needed

• Travel required locally (about 50 percent)
