Packaging Operator

Position Purpose/Summary:

This person’s primary responsibility is to facilitate production on the packaging section of the production process through operation of machinery and packaging of finished product.

Examples of Duties and Responsibilities:

• Operation of packaging side equipment (Box Erector, Star Valve, Bag Sealer, Tape Machine)
• Must follow Packaging SOP, PPE’s, and HR policies.
• Places corrugated boxes on Box Erector machine.
• Inspects box for any foreign contaminates or box defects.
• Inserts poly liner in erected box.
• Operates Star Valve to fill box with finished product.
• Check weights box and either add or removes product to ensure proper product weight is achieved.
• Uses Bag Sealer to seal inner poly liner bags.
• Sends sealed bags to Box Tape machine.
• Communicates with Lead Operator of any production related issues.
• Use of chemicals cleaning and sanitizing agents.
• Participates in plant wash down procedure.
• Daily sanitation requirements to keep packaging area and equipment sanitary.
• Responsible for reporting all violations of safety and other policies to their supervisor.
• Use of various tools to keep area clean (broom, mop, water hose, brush, dust pan, scraper, etc.)
• Must be willing to perform other duties not listed in this job description.

Position Requirements:

• High School diploma or equivalent
• Forklift Certification
• Good communication skills
• Ability to Multitask
• Must be willing to work all shifts including nights, weekends and holidays
• Great attention to detail
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to lift up to 60 pounds.
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. The employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the environment is moderate to high.
