Position Summary Senior Process Engineer:


We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Process Engineer to lead process optimization and technical support at our fully automated coatings manufacturing facility. This role requires deep expertise in formulated chemical processes, with a strong emphasis on automation, PLC control systems, and continuous improvement methodologies. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in scaling, troubleshooting, and enhancing high-volume, automated production systems within the coatings, adhesives, or specialty chemicals industry.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Lead process engineeri?g activities for batch and continuous operations in a fully automated coatings production environment.
  • Interface directly with automation and controls teams to manage and improve PLC, SCADA, and DCS systems (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, etc.).
  • Monitor and analyze process data for OEE improvement, cycle time reduction, energy optimization, and product quality consistency.
  • Develop and revise P&IDs, process flow diagrams, and SOPs for new and existing processes.


  • Collaborate with maintenance and reliability teams to improve equipment uptime and production throughput.
  • Support R&D, Production, and the Product Management team to collaborate & assist with new product development.
  • Lead RCAs and corrective action plans in response to process upsets, quality issues, or downtime events.
  • Ensure compliance with EHS, OSHA, EPA, and quality (ISO/TS) standards.
  • Drive capital project support from concept to commissioning, including equipment selection, automation integration, and performance validation.
  • Serve as a technical mentor to junior engineers and production staff.



Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Process Engineering, or related field (Master's preferred).
  • 1O+ years of relevant experience in process engineering in coatings, chemical manufacturing, or similar industries.
  • Strong proficiency with automation systems and PLC programming/logic (Rockwell Automation, Siemens TIA Portal, or equivalent).
  • Familiarity with batch control systems (ISA-88) and industrial control software.


 

  • Deep understanding of pumps, mixers, tank systems, heating/cooling loops, dust collection, and environmental controls.
  • Experience with statistical process control (SPC), Six Sigma, or other data-driven problem-solving tools.
  • Demonstrated success leading continuous improvement or lean manufacturing initiatives.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and cross-functional team skills.
  • Collaborate with supply chain and operations to identify and eliminate bottlenecks in material flow and scheduling.
  • Develop and deliver training for operators and production staff on new processes, equipment, and control systems.
  • Act as a key contributor in strategic manufacturing decisions related to automation upgrades and system integration.
  • Comfortable working in a small-to-mid-sized company where agility, initiative, and ownership are valued.




Preferred Experience:


  • Work experience in a paint, coatings, resin, or adhesive manufacturing facility.
  • Experience with automated materials handling systems, recipe management, and batch automation.
  • Exposure to industry 4.0 technologies, including remote monitoring, predictive maintenance, and smart factory systems.
