Job Title: Staff Accountant
Location: Pyramid Lake, Nevada
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
Pay Rate: $22.10 per hour

Job Summary:
The Staff Accountant performs accounting work related to the operation and maintenance of computerized and networked financial systems. This includes reconciling general ledger accounts through complex journal entries, ensuring compliance with tribal and federal regulations, and supporting financial reporting and internal controls. The role requires a strong understanding of governmental accounting and the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review revenue and expense reports for accuracy in calculations and allocations
- Analyze financial data and prepare journal entries to the general ledger
- Examine supporting documentation for proper authorization and regulatory compliance
- Calculate and post Indirect Cost expenses to all funds on a monthly or quarterly basis
- Reconcile accounts payable and receivable with the general ledger
- Assist the Tribal Comptroller in reconciling cash accounts to bank statements
- Prepare journal entries for electronic fund transfers, returned checks, and related items
- Research and resolve outstanding checks to ensure year-end clearance
- Coordinate grant accounting and assist with financial reporting to agencies
- Help establish internal control procedures for all tribal revenue sources
- Collaborate with program directors to ensure accountability of revenues
- Supervise assigned accounting staff as delegated
- Serve as an authorized signer for purchase orders and check requests
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
- Knowledge of public agency accounting laws and fiscal operations
- Experience in analyzing, posting, balancing, and reconciling financial data
- Familiarity with budget principles, business data processing, and documentation standards
- Must be bondable and possess a valid driver’s license; insurable under the Tribe’s vehicle policy
Required Education and Experience:
- Associate degree (two-year college or university) in accounting, finance, business administration, or a closely related field
- Professional accounting support work may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis
- Progressive experience in governmental accounting preferred
