Madden Industrial Craftsmen is seeking a Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanic for our client in Portland, OR. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining and repairing a wide range of company equipment and assets, including heavy equipment, baler machines, conveyor machines, and vehicles. This role involves advanced repair skills and compliance with state and federal DOT regulations to ensure safe and efficient operation of all equipment.
Pay: $35-37/hr
Shift: Monday-Friday 6am to 2:30pm.
Shift: Monday-Friday 2pm to 10:30pm.
Responsibilities:

Maintain and repair all company equipment, including heavy equipment, balers, conveyors, and vehicles.

Perform major engine overhauls on gasoline and diesel engines (preferred but not required).

Diagnose and repair hydraulic systems, including cylinders, valves, and pumps.

Rewire low-voltage electrical systems.
-
Change tires, brakes, clutches, and drivetrain components.

Maintain accurate written logs and records of time and materials used for repairs.

Perform preventive maintenance on company assets.
-
Conduct building and yard maintenance as needed.
-
Ensure vehicles comply with state and federal DOT regulations.

Guide the repair work of others with minimal supervision after the introductory period.

Operate vehicles and equipment (e.g., forklifts, tractors, trucks, cranes, loaders, balers) safely.

Maintain cleanliness in the shop.
Knowledge and Skills Required:

Ability to perform major engine overhauls (gasoline and diesel, preferred but not required).

Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing hydraulic systems (cylinders, valves, pumps).

Skill in rewiring low-voltage electrical systems.

Experience changing tires, brakes, clutches, and drivetrain components.

Ability to maintain accurate logs and records of repairs.

Knowledge of preventive maintenance procedures.

Experience in building and yard maintenance.

Some experience in welding and fabrication.

Understanding of state and federal DOT regulations for vehicle compliance.
Qualifications:

Some experience in welding and fabrication required.

Ability to guide the repair work of others.

Personable with customers, able to work with others, and capable of making independent decisions.

Valid driver’s license and good driving record required.

Regular and reliable attendance required.
Hand Tools Required/Shop Tools Used:
-
Required: Complete set of hand tools up to 1 ½” in size, air tools up to ½” drive, diagnostic tools for troubleshooting electrical and hydraulic problems, large roll-away and top toolbox.

Used: Large handheld grinders and sanders, air tools up to 1” drive, hydraulic jacks, jack stands, large sledgehammers, pry bars, chains, hoists, and come-alongs.
Working Conditions:

Work performed in all weather conditions.
-
Involves handling metals of various kinds, shapes, sizes, and weights; fuel, grease, oils, aerosols; and compressed gases (oxygen, acetylene, argon).

May require travel to other yards using a company-owned service truck.
Physical Demands:

Stand/walk up to 8 hours/day; sit up to 4 hours/day.

Lift up to 55 lbs. regularly, 100 lbs. occasionally.
