Turbine Engineer
Position Summary:
The Turbine Engineer provides steam turbine engineering support and disposition for products and services, including design solutions, redesigns to address equipment issues, field operations, and development of processes/procedures for use in the shop or field. The role requires sound technical judgment and timely decision-making to support outages and field/shop activities.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Serve as a subject matter expert in turbine rotating and stationary components and sub-systems (valves, lubrication oil, hydraulic oil & controls, seal oil, etc.).
- Provide production support to field and shop operations (Repairs & Open Clean and Close).
- Analyze and/or generate engineering drawings, specifications, and related data as required.
- Develop procedures and datasheets for operations.
- Provide project estimates on costs, resources, and schedules.
- Oversee field and shop repairs to ensure high-quality work and acceptable operating margins.
- Sketch rough layouts and compute dimensions, tolerances, clearances, and other specifications.
- Review component designs for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, and customer requirements.
- Coordinate activities related to technical development, scheduling, and resolution of engineering design/test problems.
- Direct the integration of technical activities and products.
- Evaluate and approve design changes, specifications, and drawing releases.
- Monitor and control project expenditures to stay within budget.
- Prepare interim and final project reports.
- Measure machines and parts during production for compliance with design specifications.
- Use computer-aided design/drafting equipment and software for designs and drawings.
- Perform material review board responsibilities.
- Oversee the welding program, including development and certification of procedures, processes, and personnel.
- Serve as project engineer or project manager as needed.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment, adhering to safety regulations.
- Participate in ongoing professional training and development.
- Maintain professional and appropriate communication with customers, suppliers, vendors, and colleagues.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering required
- Proficiency in AutoCAD or similar drafting software in required
- Fluent with Microsoft Office Suite
Experience in high-speed rotating equipment repair and manufacturing is required - 5 years of related experience preferred
- Experience with steam turbine repairs/parts required
- Experience supporting power generation maintenance and repair is a plus
Travel:
- Willingness to travel both domestically and internationally
- Must support onsite and in-house projects at both Houston and Sullivan locations
- Valid Driver’s License must
- Valid Passport is a must or ability to get one
