Position Summary

The Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for commercial construction projects. This role involves analyzing drawings, specifications, and other documentation to prepare time, cost, and labor estimates. The Estimator works closely with project managers, architects, subcontractors, and clients to ensure timely and cost-effective project execution.

 

 

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze blueprints, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare accurate cost estimates.

• Collaborate with architects, engineers, clients, and subcontractors to clarify project scope and details.

• Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotes to ensure competitive pricing.

• Develop and maintain cost databases and unit pricing records.

• Prepare and present bid packages and proposals in a clear, professional manner.

• Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and project walkthroughs.

• Identify and assess potential risks, including scope gaps and pricing inconsistencies.

• Track and analyze historical cost data and market trends.

• Assist in value engineering, budgeting, and project scheduling when required.

• Support the transition from preconstruction to operations by providing detailed hand-off documentation.

 

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent work experience).

• 3+ years of experience in estimating commercial construction projects.

• Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and building codes.

• Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, ProEst, PlanSwift, Sage Estimating, or similar).

• Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.

• Detail-oriented with strong math and computer skills.

• Ability to work independently and manage multiple estimates under tight deadlines.

 

Preferred Skills

• Experience estimating projects in sectors such as healthcare, education, retail, or hospitality.

• Familiarity with BIM and digital takeoff tools.

• LEED accreditation or knowledge of sustainable building practices.
