The Manual Machinist sets up and operates various machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments for the Power Generation Industry. Responsibilities include fabrication, modification, and repair of mechanical instruments and parts for machine tools or industrial machines. Requires knowledge of mechanics, math, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Perform all assigned shop and field machining operations
  • Operate specialized power industry machinery
  • Report defective materials or questionable conditions
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area
  • Perform milling, turning, drilling, grinding, tapping, de-burring, sawing, sanding
  • Inspect machined products and document results
  • Complete and maintain part paperwork
  • Assist with fabrication, lay-up, infiltration, furnace operation, sand blasting
  • Adhere to all safety rules, regulations, and PPE/testing requirements
  • Use provided tools and technology efficiently
  • Attend ongoing training as needed
  • Maintain professional communication with customers, suppliers, vendors, and co-workers
  • Be available to work all shifts, weekends, and overtime
  • Be fit for duty and presentable
  • Willingness to travel within and outside the continental U.S.
  • Perform other duties as required

Job Qualifications

Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Trade or technical education preferred

Experience:

  • Minimum 10 years in machining/manufacturing
  • Experience in the power industry preferred

Licenses & Certifications:

  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Valid Passport

  • Clerical: File management, word processing, documentation
  • Technology: Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Office 360
  • Customer Service: Assess needs, meet standards, ensure satisfaction

Physical & Mental Requirements

  • Must sit and stand frequently throughout the day
  • Regularly lift and carry up to 50 lbs; occasionally up to 75 lbs
  • Frequent bending, twisting, grasping, reaching, and dexterity required
  • Occasional crouching, kneeling, and climbing
  • Frequent verbal communication and hearing ability required
  • Must maintain focus and attention, follow instructions, and interact professionally with others
