Position: Manual Machinist
Reports To: Production Manager
Position Summary
The Manual Machinist is responsible for independently setting up and operating manual machining equipment to produce precision parts and components. This role involves interpreting technical drawings and specifications, selecting appropriate materials and tools, and ensuring final products meet quality and dimensional standards. The ideal candidate has strong machining skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety and quality.
Key Responsibilities
Produce machined components by interpreting blueprints, drawings, and engineering specifications.
Operate manual machining equipment, including Horizontal Mills, Vertical Turret Lathes, Milling machines, and Engine Lathes.
Calculate dimensions and tolerances using advanced math skills and precision instruments such as calipers and micrometers.
Review and interpret shop work instructions and procedures accurately.
Collaborate with Quality Assurance, Manufacturing Support, and Engineering teams to resolve issues and ensure compliance with quality standards.
Inspect finished parts for defects and verify conformance to design specifications.
Select appropriate tools, machines, and materials for each job.
Complete Operator Safety and Powered Industrial Equipment training.
Work significant overtime and weekends as needed to meet production goals.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Strong understanding of manual machining techniques, tools, and equipment.
In-depth knowledge of raw materials, quality control standards, and manufacturing processes.
Problem-solving ability and familiarity with machining math and measurement techniques.
Physically able to stand, crouch, bend, and lift up to 40 lbs during an 8-hour shift.
Proficient in basic computer tasks and able to follow detailed instructions.
Clear verbal and written communication skills.
High attention to detail and a commitment to producing quality parts.
Education & Experience
High School Diploma or GED required.
Minimum of 5 years' experience as a manual machinist in a manufacturing or production environment.
English language proficiency (reading, writing, and speaking).
