Job Title: Banquet / Event Server

Reports To: Event Supervisor / Banquet Captain

Location: Various Event Venues

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Position Type: Temporary / On-Call


Position Summary:

The Banquet/Event Server is responsible for providing professional and efficient food and beverage service during banquets, receptions, and special events. This position requires strong customer service skills, teamwork, and the ability to maintain a polished and professional demeanor while working in a fast-paced environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Set up banquet rooms or event areas according to event specifications, including table settings, linens, glassware, and décor.
  • Greeting guests courteously and respond promptly to requests and inquiries.
  • Serve food and beverages in a timely, efficient, and professional manner, following event standards and sequence of service.
  • Ensure all guests receive courteous and attentive service throughout the event.
  • Communicate effectively with kitchen and event staff regarding meal timing, special dietary needs, and service coordination.
  • Clear tables, remove dishes, and maintain cleanliness and order in assigned areas.
  • Assist in event breakdown, including removing linens, resetting tables, and cleaning work areas.
  • Maintain compliance with all health, safety, and sanitation guidelines.
  • Follow company dress code, grooming, and appearance standards.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Minimum 6 months of experience as a banquet, catering, or restaurant server.
  • Ability to carry multiple trays and serve food and beverages efficiently.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Must be able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as event schedules require.
  • Reliable transportation to and from event sites.
  • Food Handler certification (required or must obtain prior to first shift, per local regulations).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in hotel banquets, convention centers, or large-scale event venues.
  • Knowledge of proper table service etiquette and sequence of service.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

Working Environment:

  • Work performed primarily in banquet halls, convention centers, or indoor/outdoor event spaces.
  • Fast-paced, high-volume environment with frequent interaction with guests and team members.
  • May involve exposure to loud noise levels, varying temperatures, and crowded spaces.
  • Standing and walking for long durations during event shifts.

Physical and Mental Requirements:

  • Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods (up to 8–10 hours per shift).
  • Ability to lift, carry, and transport items up to 40 lbs (trays, dishes, banquet equipment).
  • Frequent bending, stooping, and reaching.
  • Manual dexterity and balance are required to carry full trays safely.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions precisely.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and professional appearance in a high-energy, team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to remain calm and courteous under pressure.
