Position Summary

The Construction Carpenter is responsible for performing skilled carpentry work on new commercial construction projects. This role involves building, installing, and repairing structures and fixtures made of wood, metal, and other materials according to blueprints, specifications, and building codes. The Carpenter works closely with project managers, foremen, and other trades to ensure that all work is completed safely, accurately, and on schedule.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Construct, assemble, and install wood, metal, and other structural frameworks and fixtures in new commercial buildings.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine measurements, materials, and installation methods.
  • Measure, cut, shape, and join wood, metal studs, and other materials using hand tools, power tools, and woodworking machines.
  • Install doors, frames, windows, cabinets, wall partitions, ceilings, and other commercial finishes.
  • Build and set forms for concrete, as required for structural or finish work.
  • Ensure work is aligned, leveled, and plumb, making adjustments when necessary.
  • Maintain tools and equipment in safe, working condition.
  • Follow established safety rules, regulations, and procedures to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Collaborate with other trades (plumbing, electrical, HVAC, etc.) to coordinate installation and sequencing of work.
  • Maintain job site cleanliness and assist in material handling and staging.
  • Perform quality checks to ensure compliance with project specifications and standards.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be able to pass a background check and drug screening,
  • Must have own transportation to travel between job sites if necessary.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in commercial carpentry, with emphasis on new build projects.
  • Strong knowledge of carpentry techniques, construction methods, and building codes.
  • Proficiency in using hand tools, power tools, levels, measuring devices, and woodworking machinery.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
  • Knowledge of OSHA safety standards and commitment to safe work practices.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a construction team.

Working Environment

  • Work is performed primarily at commercial construction job sites.
  • Exposure to outdoor elements, including varying weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, etc.).
  • Work around dust, noise, vibrations, and other construction-related conditions.
  • Standard workweek is Monday–Friday; overtime, evenings, weekends, and extended hours may be required to meet project deadlines.
  • Must be able to wear appropriate PPE at all times

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and climb for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 75 pounds.
  • Manual dexterity to operate tools and equipment with precision.
  • Ability to work at heights, on scaffolding, ladders, and aerial lifts.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces as required by project conditions.
  • Adequate vision, hearing, and hand-eye coordination to perform detailed carpentry tasks safely.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to adapt to changing work conditions.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy to ensure quality workmanship.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet project deadlines.
