Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Description
The Housing Assistance Specialist performs clerical and technical work of routine difficulty involved in processing the required forms and documentation necessary to effectuate required documents/processes with Housing Choice Voucher Program participants, and landlords. Routinely interacts with families and landlords of diverse backgrounds.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Conducts interviews with families to obtain information required to determine eligibility for the Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Program, establish the family's portion of the rent, and complete internal forms processing in a timely manner.
Processes amendments to the Housing Assistance Payments (HAP) Contract, between client and the landlord, to reflect changes in family composition or income and during recertifications in a timely manner.
Executes HAP Contracts with property landlords after receiving approved Housing Quality Standards (HQS) Inspection reports within established time parameters.
Generates HAP, adjustments to HAP, and overpayments to landlords after reviewing HAP amounts.
Maintains family file integrity in accordance with client privacy and confidentiality laws and regulations.
Maintains working knowledge of Special Programs and Move-to-Work (MTW) Programs processes and procedures.
Translates program procedures to families to ensure proper explanation of family t’s responsibilities in the program.
Ensure integrity of the program by reviewing documents submitted by families.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School diploma or equivalent
Resume Required
Two (2) years of experience involving case management, customer service and/or experience in social work.
Must have the ability to learn and use cloud applications such as Google GSuite applications to include but not limited to: Google Chrome Browser, Gmail, Drive, Calendar, Docs, Sheets and Slides. Understanding document sharing and collaboration in the cloud.
Successful completion of a criminal history background check, education, and work history verification, and drug screening test.
Valid Driver's License Required
Preferred Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university with college coursework in social work, sociology, or related field.
Housing Choice Voucher Specialist Certification.
Bilingual speaker and writer in English and Spanish.
Knowledge of housing programs.
Basic understanding of Virtual Private Network (VPN) access to connect to internal business systems.
Working Environment
Evening and weekend work may be required.
Physical requirements include occasional lifting/carrying of 15 pounds.
Visual acuity, speech and hearing, hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate a computer keyboard and basic office equipment.
Subject to sitting, standing, reaching, walking, twisting, and kneeling to perform the essential functions.
Physical and Mental Requirements
Exerting up to 40 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
Must be able to stand, walk, sit, handling, reach outward, reach above shoulder, crawl, squat/Kneel, bend, push and pull frequently. Maintain body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing or crouching on work surface.
Ability to use upper and lower extremities to move or transport 25 to 50 pounds, including pressing against something to force it in a forward, downward or outward position or drag, haul 25 to 50 pounds
Ability to bend the body downward and forward by bending spine at waist, and bending legs at knees and moving extremities in any direction
Ability to withstand physical demands on the body, including being in a stationary and/or standing position most of the day
Ability to express and exchange ideas by means of the spoken word, including where detailed or important spoken instructions must be conveyed to other workers accurately, loudly or quickly
Ability to understand, remember and apply oral and/or written instructions or other information
