Summary:
Responsible for maintaining safety, security, and order within a correctional facility. Duties include supervising inmates, conducting security checks, responding to emergencies, processing intakes/releases, and supporting rehabilitation efforts.
Work Environment:
Duties are performed in a secure facility with direct contact with inmates. Exposure to stressful or hazardous situations may occur. Standard shifts are 12 hours and may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
Essential Duties:
- Monitor inmate behavior and ensure compliance with facility rules.
- Conduct routine security checks of cells, common areas, and facility perimeter.
- Assist with inmate intake, release procedures, and property documentation.
- Respond to emergencies, including disturbances, medical incidents, or fires.
- Maintain incident and activity reports in accordance with regulations.
- Oversee inmate work assignments, education, and rehabilitation participation.
- Collaborate with internal staff and external professionals for facility operations.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Strong observation and communication skills.
- Calm under pressure with sound judgment.
- Able to work flexible hours, including long shifts and weekends.
- Must complete all required training and certification programs.
- Must pass a background check, polygraph, and drug screening.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Emergency response and incident management skills.
- Understanding of inmate rehabilitation programs.
- Strong documentation and record-keeping abilities.
Physical Demands:
- Prolonged standing, walking, and facility navigation.
- Ability to restrain individuals when needed.
- Possible exposure to contagious or hazardous conditions.
