Job Title: Seamstress – Wardrobe Department

Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled Seamstress to join our Wardrobe Department, responsible for garment alterations, repairs, and maintenance. The ideal candidate has a keen eye for detail, expert sewing skills, and the ability to work with various fabrics and costume pieces. This role requires proficiency in using both traditional sewing equipment and computer-based tools for tracking inventory, documenting alterations, and managing wardrobe logistics.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform alterations, repairs, and adjustments on costumes and garments.

  • Work with a variety of fabrics, trims, and embellishments.

  • Measure, fit, and modify clothing according to design or performance needs.

  • Maintain and organize wardrobe pieces to ensure quality and readiness.

  • Use industrial sewing machines, sergers, and hand-sewing techniques.

  • Track and document alterations, repairs, and costume assignments using a computer.

  • Collaborate with designers, performers, and wardrobe staff to meet deadlines.

  • Ensure proper garment care, including laundering, steaming, and storage.

  • Assist in creating new garments or modifying existing pieces as needed.

  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Proven experience as a seamstress, tailor, or costume technician.

  • Strong sewing skills, including hand-sewing, machine-sewing, and pattern adjustments.

  • Familiarity with a variety of fabrics and garment construction techniques.

  • Ability to take precise measurements and execute alterations efficiently.

  • Basic computer proficiency (e.g., tracking software, email, spreadsheets).

  • Detail-oriented with excellent time-management skills.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

  • Experience in theater, film, or costume design is a plus.

Work Environment:

  • Fast-paced setting, often requiring quick turnarounds.

  • May involve standing for extended periods and working with delicate or heavy fabrics.

  • Some evening or weekend work may be required, depending on production schedules.
