Immigration Advocate.
The position requires someone fluent in English and Spanish, has an interest and capacity for legal work, and has a heart for this kind of work.
Pay: $15/hr
Primary duties:
1. Create and maintain client files in accordance with strict confidentiality guidelines required by legal and ethical rules for attorney-client confidentiality and file security.
2. Responsible for scheduling client appointments with immigration attorneys.
3. Responsible for overseeing the immigration client intake process to ensure that all potential clients completely fill out intake forms, pay the consultation fee, and are scheduled timely.
4. Become proficient in client case management software for entering client profiles when necessary and entering notices and other documents into the client platform.
5. Provide Spanish-to-English interpretation services for Spanish-speaking clients and potential clients.
6. Answer phone calls and take messages for individuals seeking immigration legal assistance.
7. Maintain databases to track immigration mailings, expected payments, and other matters.
8. Draft and prepare immigration legal forms for attorney review.
9. Assist supervising attorney in gathering and preparing documentation for immigration legal applications to United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).
10. Participate in training in preparation for applying to the Department of Justice for accreditation to practice immigration law while employed by CCNLA and under attorney supervision.
11. Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
1. Fluency in Spanish
2. Bachelor’s degree in any field preferred but not required
3. Passion for serving our clients and the community at large.
4. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively work with diverse groups of coworkers, volunteers, and clients.
5. Strong organizational and time management skills with keen attention to detail
6. Excellent writing and presentation skills
7. Proficient in MS Word and Excel.
8. Valid driver’s license
9. Experience in immigration law or the legal field in general is a plus.
