Operations Manager ~ Job Summary
Powell Construction Company (PCC) specializes in design-build projects involving structural steel and mechanical installations. PCC is headquartered in Johnson City, Tennessee. PCC’s highly-skilled staff of professional millwrights, ironworkers, welders, pipe-fitters, and carpenters, supported by a modern fleet of cranes with capacities up to 275 tons, brings its customers the latest technology and superior workmanship. PCC is a S-Corporation and employs approximately 25 full time workers in the corporate office and a range of 35-60 at the construction sites.
Throughout its 50+ year history, PCC has performed in a variety of industries including coal mines, water/wastewater, aggregates, and commercial steel erection; However, over the past 6-8 years, PCC has mainly focused on Design-Build projects within the coal mining industry. PCC is looking to expand and diversify back into other markets to help increase our company revenues and promote growth.

To help continue growth, PCC is seeking a hardworking, detail-oriented, experienced, energetic, and organized Operations Manager to join our highly skilled team in Johnson City, TN. The ideal candidate will have extensive management experience as a Project Manager or other Leadership position, within the construction industry. The role requires exceptional organizational, communication, and leadership skills and an ability to quickly adapt to the dynamic nature of construction. The Operations Manager will work closely with the President and all Department Leaders to strategize and develop short and long-term plans that usher in new levels of productivity and success for the Company. The Operations Manager would aspire to work toward the role of Chief Operating Officer.
Requirements and Qualifications:
•
Job location is in Johnson City, TN. Applicant must be willing to relocate if required.
•
8 -10 years’ experience in a Project Management or Leadership position in a field related to our industry. Preferably design-build, EPC, and/or General Contracting
•
BS in Engineering or Construction related Field
•
Superior knowledge of construction operational functions; including finance, marketing, project management, safety, and production
•
Experience in developing and implementing budgets and operational plans
•
General knowledge of HR Regulations
•
General knowledge of Insurance Requirements and Worker’s Compensation Management
•
Strong working knowledge of MSHA and OSHA safety regulations
•
Ability to Prioritize and Manage Time Efficiently
•
Accurate and Precise Attention to Detail
•
Creative and Innovative Thinker and Planner
•
Must be willing to travel periodically
Duties and Responsibilities:
•
Consult with and/or Manage Department Leaders – Engineering, Accounting, Business Development, Project Management, Operations, and Safety/HR.
•
Develop and implement operations and production plans to meet company goals
•
Develop and implement training programs to improve company performance
•
Assist President and Marketing Departments to promote company growth and diversify company markets
•
Oversee project finances, monitor cash flow and P&L.
•
Allocate company resources; materials, equipment, and labor to the most productive functions
•
Oversee estimating and proposal development
•
Establish, oversee, and implement project schedules
•
Oversee project purchase orders and subcontracts
Salary Range
• $150K - $175K
