Pay: $32.00- $38.00 per hour DOE


Position Summary


The HVAC Lead Technician performs work as an HVAC Systems Specialist in both mechanical and automation fields. The position will be responsible for operating and repairing major HVAC Systems and can implement corrective actions when needed. Can Independently inspect major systems and identify problems with systems operations and perform complex troubleshooting. They can also effectively and competently provide administrative oversight and manage the BMS. Will prioritize multiple high-level issues and deploy resources to identify and efficiently address root causes of failure. Jacobs HVAC Technicians at the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport play a critical role in maintaining a comfortable and pleasant environmental for passengers, as well as those that visit and work at the world’s busiest airport.  Scheduled third shift work hours for this role are 10 PM to 6 AM; however, alternate work hours may be required during inclement weather, special project requests, or as needed by the Atlanta Airlines Terminal Company, LLC, Jacobs’ client at the airport.


Essential Job Functions


  1. Inspect system and identify complex mechanical and controls problems.
  2. Can operate a wide variety of HVAC and Automation System testing equipment. Has knowledge and experience with operations and maintenance of 4 pipe AHUs, VAVs, and Fan Coil Units. As well as Split DX Systems, pneumatics and DDC controls. 
  3. Can communicate effectively internally with HVAC leadership and peers, as well as externally with the client, stakeholders and larger airport community concerning HVAC system performance.
  4. Can work independently, work closely with peers and lead teams assigned to overseeing the efficient operations of HVAC and other systems critical to providing exceptional customer service.
  5. Ensures all documentation is recorded in work order management system


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities


  1. Demonstrates ability to read and understand mechanical, electrical, and equipment drawings, as well as sequence of operations.
  2. Good working knowledge of the design, operation, and maintenance of chill and hot water systems. 
  3. Possess familiarity with BAS systems such as Metasys, Siemens, Honeywell, etc.
  4. Experience with purpose of Variable Frequency Drives in HVAC operations. Ability to diagnose and repair complex VFD issues including programming parameters and addressing controllers.
  5. Experience with DX refrigeration units such as Fujitsu and Mitsubishi.
  6. Demonstrated knowledge of N2 and BACnet protocols is desired.
  7. Good computer, communication, and typing skills
  8. Strong analytical and diagnostic abilities.
  9. Strong time management skills.
  10. Self-starter with ability to work with little supervision.


Education


  1. HS Diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience.
  2. Associates degree from 2-year accredited college or technical school or equivalent experience preferred.
  3. Universal EPA Preferred
  4. Desired training may include:
  5. BACnet MSTP, BACnet/IP, N2 Bus communication protocols
  6. Trane, JCI, Honeywell automation systems


Experience Required

  1. Five years’ work experience maintaining and operating HVAC and other equipment in an industrial, commercial, aviation, or manufacturing environment required.  Seven years’ experience is preferred.
  2. Three years’ experience with facilities BAS systems, installation, programming, maintaining, troubleshooting, and testing.   Five years’ experience is preferred.
  3. Valid driver’s license with ability to be covered by Jacobs liability insurance carrier.


Working Conditions


Working conditions in the work area can include indoor environments, as well as outdoor environments, which could cause exposure to changing weather conditions; proper environmental attire will be required.  Some areas can have loud noise, active machinery, high pressure fluid systems, electrical equipment, confined spaces, heights and depths, fumes, air borne particles, noxious gases, pathogens, and various chemicals.  The use of appropriate safety equipment will be mandatory in these areas to prevent hazardous contact.

Physical Requirements


Physical requirements to perform work will include ability to sit, stand, stoop, twist, and bend at the waist, turn, kneel, squat, raise arms above shoulder height, grasp, reach, perform repetitive hand movements and fine coordination to work on equipment, have vision sufficient to maintain equipment, have hearing in the normal range with or without correction.  In an 8-hour shift, must be able to walk long distances throughout the facility, lift objects up to 40 pounds from floor level to waist height, climb into and out of vehicles having high ground clearance; work in prone position under vehicles or equipment; wear and use appropriate safety equipment; work alternate shifts to meet client needs.
