Qualifications:
OPERATOR - WATER/WASTEWATER TREATMENT FACILITY
Here's What You'll Need:
• Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) Water and/or Wastewater Treatment Operator Certification or the ability to obtain one within 6 months of employment
• High School Diploma or GED
• Advanced understanding of computer software including Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to enter data into a maintenance management system
• A valid driver’s license
Ideally, You’ll Also Have:
• Familiarity of the principles and practices of treatment plant operations, valves, pumps, and motors
• At least one (1) year of experience in operating a wastewater/water treatment plant, wastewater collection system and/or water distribution system.
• General maintenance background
• Ability to work alone and be self-driven
• Safe work practices
Responsibilities:
As a Water/Wastewater Operator, you will have the opportunity to perform a variety of tasks related to the operation and maintenance of a wastewater/water treatment plant wastewater collection system, and water distribution system. This includes equipment maintenance, quality control testing, report compilation, recordkeeping, and ensuring compliance with policies and procedures. Your role will be crucial to the success of our program through efficient preventive maintenance and effective solutions to complex challenges in municipal facilities.
You will diagnose operating problems, monitor and control adjustments, and determine proper rates in the treatment facilities to manage the flow and processing of wastewater, sludge, and effluent. Additionally, you will collect samples, maintain shift logs, and perform other duties as required, including weekend on-call duties and maintenance support.
Your responsibilities will also include performing preventive and corrective maintenance on live water main distribution lines, conducting plumbing repairs on lines up to 6", replacing valves, and installing clamps as needed. You will lubricate equipment, check for malfunctions, replace packing in pumps or valves, and replace bearings in motors, pumps, and other equipment. Cleaning out/jetting lines and performing other plumbing and pipe fitting tasks will also be part of your duties.
You will assist in keeping maintenance work order records and continuously improve your knowledge and skills through on-the-job training. If not already licensed, you must obtain a TCEQ water and/or wastewater operator license within six months of employment.
