Per diem of $140 day offered for anyone non local more than 50 miles away from job site location - per diem is paid fro 7 days weekly. 



Description:

This role is in the I&C (Instrumentation and Control) Design Engineering Organization. In this role the candidate will be preforming the role of an RE (Responsible Engineer). This will require the individual to be the technical lead for the assigned project. Candidates must demonstrate technical proficiency in combination with good communication skills and leadership skills to coordinate activities between other department and selected vendors.

This role is a Subject Matter Experts (SME)s level. The candidate must provide engineering/technical expertise to solve complex problems, and leadership skills to provide oversight of work in the I&C Design organization, with minimal supervision and oversight. Incumbents are expected to have advanced skills and have the ability to work independently.

Provides engineering/technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis and resolution of problems in area of expertise (Instrumentation and Control Engineering)
Ensures accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling and monitoring of work activities.

Candidate must be able to demonstrate and maintain competency in subject matters relevant to team’s project portfolio. This portfolio consists largely of replacement projects for large digitally integrated control systems, Isolated control systems, and traditional I&C design.

Prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, engineering changes, calculations and sketches. Conducts engineering and related studies.
Strives to continually improve job-related, technical, engineering, and professional knowledge, skills and performance.

Current qualification at a nuclear utility as a Modification Engineer under an INPO Accredited Program and knowledge of Passport or Nuclear Asset Suite for design and work order development is highly desirable. Experience in Operations department is considered a desirable trait as well. Individual will be required to obtain qualifications for a Modification Engineer prior to working independently.

Responsibilities will include design package development, developing conceptual designs and specifications for bidding purposes, evaluating alternatives, technical support during implementation, setpoint development, coordination of design efforts with selected vendors/AEs/designer and conducting design package reviews.

A working knowledge or familiarity of cyber security regulations as mandated by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) is required as digital designs need to be cyber security compliant. Design products related to major digital controls system replacements, software evaluations, instrument component upgrades, and control circuits are expected to be developed. Individual will be required to qualify in the necessary duty areas to act independently as a Responsible Engineer for modifications within Duke Energy with past qualifications and product demonstration from other utilities as an acceptable alternative.
Lastly, the individual will be expected to exhibit sound technical judgment and guidance to the project


Basic Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or equivalent degree or work experience
• 10+ years engineering experience in the nuclear industry
• Ability to obtain and maintain unescorted access to a nuclear facility (General Employee Training, Radiation Worker Training, Security Clearance checks and subject to the site’s Fitness for Duty Program)
• Strong oral / written communication skills within a professional environment
• Skilled in the practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations and preparing and presenting recommendations.
• Must be able to work in a team environment

Preferred Qualifications:

• Registration/Licensure as a Professional Engineer
• Experience in digital hardware / software modifications
• Digital / I&C engineering experience at Brunswick Nuclear Plant
• Working knowledge of digital upgrade specific licensing requirements and current 10CFR73.54 Cyber Security Requirements
• Experience developing digital / software modification test plans
• Experience in the 10CFR50.59 with respect to designing modifications to a nuclear facility.
