About the Role
Under the direction of the Member Wellness & Prevention Manager, the Health Education Assistant will support all activities related to health education, wellness, and prevention. This role helps members access educational services to promote better health outcomes and care in the most appropriate settings.
The position provides administrative support to the Wellness & Prevention Department. Candidates should possess an intermediate level of medical knowledge, strong computer skills (especially in Microsoft Office), experience providing translation and interpreting services, and the ability to work semi-independently. Communication with members, caregivers, medical providers, and internal staff occurs regularly via phone, email, and in person.
Essential Functions
• Coordinate wellness, prevention, and health education programs and services.
• Conduct outreach calls to members, providers, and external agencies.
• Assist with coordination of interpreting services.
• Support class facilitators by making reminder calls, maintaining class schedules, and communicating class outcomes to providers.
• Prepare and mail letters and educational materials as requested.
• Maintain and update system databases for reporting and tracking purposes.
• Compose simple correspondence, memos, and standard forms.
• Compile information for logs and prepare summarized reports.
• Create, search, retrieve, maintain, purge, and close manual and electronic files.
• Establish or revise filing systems and organize printed/recorded materials.
• Operate standard office equipment including copiers, fax machines, and multi-line phone systems.
• Use computers and commercial software systems for data entry, document creation, and information management.
• Prepare internal forms according to organizational policies.
• Complete weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports as assigned.
• Assist with organizing and coordinating internal and external meetings.
• Update departmental information logs and computer systems.
• Proofread departmental communications and maintain inventory supplies.
• Act as a liaison for the department.
Other Responsibilities
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
• Support management staff and other departments with special projects as needed.
Employment Standards
Education:
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Some college coursework preferred.
Experience:
• Minimum two (2) years of clerical work experience in an office setting; healthcare office experience preferred.
• Experience working in health education services is highly desired.
• At least two (2) years of computer and data entry experience.
Other Requirements:
• Typing certificate showing 30 words per minute (wpm) required.
• Bilingual Spanish/English (Tier II) Certificate required.
• Valid California driver’s license and current state-required auto liability insurance.
• Ability to travel up to 20% as needed.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Familiarity with Medicaid benefits and Microsoft Office applications.
• Highly motivated, organized, flexible, and strong time management skills.
• High level of accuracy in data entry and reporting.
