About the Role

The Database Administrator III is responsible for the integrity of all databases that support business processes, along with comprehensive database systems support and in-depth knowledge of the data stored. Responsibilities include database design, table definition design and creation, ETL (Extract, Translate, and Load) design and development, database maintenance, tuning, backup, and upgrades. The role involves collaborating with and mentoring application and database development staff on database design, automation, and validation of data load routines. Responsibilities also include architecting, creating, and documenting database designs, schemas, and data flow diagrams. The position requires managing data warehouse design, setup, and maintenance, including extracts and data schemas, and participating as a stakeholder in project management related to database technology, storage, or warehousing. The Database Administrator III will work closely with senior team members.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

*Demonstrate responsibility, good judgment, initiative, and resourcefulness while working under senior team leadership.

*Provide database leadership to junior team members and mentoring support to other technical team members.

*Lead technical and business discussions with internal and external business partners and management regarding data collection, analysis, methodology, and documentation.

*Engage in technical discussions to accumulate information for critical thinking, system performance improvement, risk mitigation, or gap analysis.

*Independently design ETL processes and templates for collecting and storing data from external sources for internal or external business and technology users.

*Perform code review, develop, or modify supported languages for custom database packages and maintain code repository in Azure DevOps.

*Support and troubleshoot a single data environment such as Microsoft SQL Server or another relational database and its supporting Windows Server, UNIX, or Linux Operating Systems (OS).

*Ensure routine or special database software upgrades, maintenance, security audits, and patches are performed.

*Manage database server administration, including data and database backup and recovery, system performance, monitoring, and security.

*Work with the team to establish best practices for governing database server users, roles, and permissions.

*Provide leadership in overall database design and setup following industry standards.

*Design, create, or modify database tables, indexes, constraints, links, stored procedures, and functions.

*Demonstrate expert-level understanding of ANSI SQL (T-SQL preferred).

*Provide direction and methodology for data warehouse design, creation, and maintenance, including data schemas and associated ETL based on business needs.

*Establish standards for data integrity in the data warehouse through data reconciliation techniques, data analysis, or ETL design issues.

*Mentor and proactively support the database needs of application development teams.

*Provide design and structural recommendations for database application tuning and performance enhancements.

*Actively attend webinars and conferences related to database maintenance, direction, and industry standardization.


Employment Standards

Option 1:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related field from an accredited school.

  • Six (6) years of progressive experience in a Database Administration or Database Programming position for a medium to large organization with a structured IT department, preferably in healthcare.

OR

Option 2:

  • Ten (10) years of progressive experience in a Database Administration or Database Programming position for a medium to large organization with a structured IT department, preferably in healthcare.
