Metrology Technician

Flexicrew Technical Services (FTS) is seeking a Metrology Technician to join our client’s team. This full-time role is responsible for operating and interpreting data collected with state-of-the-art portable metrology technology, including CMM arms, laser trackers, optical scanners, and associated software. The Metrology Technician plays a critical role in reverse engineering, inspection, and quality assurance to support both internal and external customers.

 

Essential Duties:

• Reverse engineer turbomachinery components and assemblies using portable metrology technology and traditional inspection tools.
• Provide clear, accurate inspections that can be post-processed into 3D models or 2D CAD representations.
• Interpret and apply geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), form-fit-function, and other drafting standards.
• Conduct inspections in shop, office, or customer field service environments for MRO services, assembly alignments, machine setups, and quality checks.
• Generate detailed reports documenting inspection results for stakeholders.
• Manage and maintain metrology assets, including calibration, storage, and equipment upkeep.
• Ensure compliance with all safety requirements and maintain a clean, safe work environment.

 

Requirements/Skills:

• Associate degree in engineering or related technical field preferred.
• Proficiency with inspection software (Polyworks, Inspire, Spatial Analyzer, or equivalent).
• Competence in CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or equivalent).
• Knowledge of machining practices and processes.
• Ability to read, interpret, and work from engineering drawings, specifications, and work instructions.
• Hands-on experience with portable metrology equipment, micrometers, calipers, thread gages, and hardness testers.
• Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and analytical skills.
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Willingness and ability to travel up to 50% as needed.
• U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident with a valid driver’s license; must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.
• Ability to pass background checks, drug/alcohol screening, and site-specific safety training (e.g., BOP+, TWIC).

 

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. with assistance.
• Frequent standing, walking, climbing, and reaching.
• Manual dexterity for handling components, tools, and precision equipment.
• Ability to work in both office and shop/field environments with exposure to moderate noise, moving machinery, and metal particles.
• Must not have allergies or sensitivities to metals such as aluminum, bronze, copper, or steel.
