Project Archaeologist/Field Director

Baton Rouge, Louisiana: Flexicrew Technical Services (FTS) is seeking a full-time Project Archaeologist/Field Director for our Baton Rouge, LA, office. This position is ideal for new graduates or seasoned professionals looking to work in a field-heavy, travel-oriented role.

Essential Duties

• Conduct or supervise fieldwork, including survey, testing, data recovery, and monitoring under the supervision of a principal investigator.

• Perform archival research, data collection, and compilation to support technical report writing.

• Gather data and information for use in environmental report preparation.

• Mentor field, office, and laboratory personnel as needed.

• Travel extensively for fieldwork (40–75% of the time), including overnight stays.

Requirements/Skills

• Master’s degree (MA) in Anthropology, Archaeology, History, or a closely related field.

• Archaeological field experience with a professional cultural resource management firm.

• Expertise in artifact identification (Prehistoric and Historic material) and advanced knowledge in specialty scientific areas (e.g., lithic, ceramic, faunal analysis, historical archaeology, geoarchaeology).

• Proven experience overseeing crews or multiple crews on various project types and sizes, regions, and agencies.

Skills and Qualifications

• Willingness to travel and conduct fieldwork, including overnight stays.

• Strong organizational and communication skills.

• Valid US driver’s license.

• US Citizenship required due to the nature of the work.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to conduct fieldwork in diverse environmental conditions.

• Capable of extended periods of physical labor, including walking, bending, and carrying field equipment.
