Manual Machinist

Houston, TX: FTS|Flexblue is seeking a qualified Manual Machinist to work 1st shift and perform a variety of machining practices and detailed inspection using precision measuring instruments. As well rounded machinists and fabricators they are able to select and operate the proper machine shop tools to remove damaged babbitt and prepare the bearing for repair. This is a direct hire opportunity with a growing company. Essential Duties: Ability and willingness to be in the shop environment a minimum of 8 hours per day, primarily standing and sitting. Ability and willingness to work around and use large propane / acetylene. Ability to operate small lifts, pallet jacks and other lifting equipment (training will be provided on our specific equipment, but basic skills are required beforehand). Advanced oral and written communication. Advanced math skills to calculate tolerances and dimensions. Must be able to read and understand Blueprints and G-Code. Must be familiar with basic machining practices involved in turning, milling, drilling, threading operations. Must be competent reading drawings and following instructions necessary to produce usable and saleable parts. Must be able to hold tolerances as dictated by drawings, written instructions, or industry standards. Must be proficient with the use of, the care of, and the calibration of all types of measuring devices (i.e., micrometers (OD and ID), dial calipers, dial indicators, etc.). Must possess and provide basic tools required for the execution of the position of manual machinist. Must be able to comply with all safety directives and programs established by the Company and or our customers. Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent Knowledge and/or Skill Requirements: Requirements/Skills: OMEGA experience Proficient in running horizontal lathes and milling machines. Capable of reading drawings and proper use of calibrated measuring tools. Can hold tolerances of .0005". Read drawings and use of micrometers. Basic machining knowledge and practices required. While performing the duties of this position, the employee will be required to stand and walk for significant portions of the shift. Ability and willingness to lift objects weighing up to 50 lbs., walk, climb, reach, kneel, crawl, and balance. Must be able to use hands for assembly and tool. Previous Experience: 5 - 10 years of Manual Machinist experience required. Physical Requirements: The position will be based full-time in South Houston, TX. Availability to work weekends, holidays and overtime to meet company needs. Able to understand, read, write, and speak English proficiently. Authorized to work in the United States. Able to pass a pre-employment drug screen, background check and physical requirements. This role can be required to participate in company and/or customers random drug testing requirements. While performing the duties of this position, the employee will be required to stand and walk for significant portions of the shift. Ability and willingness to lift objects weighing up to 50 lbs. with assistance, walk, climb, reach above head, and balance. Must be able to use hands for assembly and tool usage. Must not have allergies or issues related to handling metals including aluminum, copper, bronze, and steel.
