Food Service Cook

(Dauphin Island, AL): Flexicrew Technical Services (FTS) is seeking a Food Service Cook to join a dynamic kitchen team. The Cook will be responsible for preparing meals, maintaining cleanliness and safety standards, and working alongside the Café Manager to ensure efficient food service operations. This role may include supervisory duties over other food service staff.

Essential Duties:

• Prepare and cook a variety of menu items, including meats, vegetables, baked goods, and specialty items
• Assist in leading kitchen staff and maintaining food quality and safety standards
• Maintain a clean and organized workstation, including cleaning grills, ovens, utensils, and preparation areas
• Set up kitchen and service areas with appropriate utensils and food items
• Monitor food temperatures and ensure proper food storage according to safety policies
• Replenish food and supplies throughout service hours
• Serve food efficiently and courteously at counters or steam tables
• Handle day-to-day concerns with equipment, food quality, and supplies
• Perform cleaning duties including washing dishes, sanitizing surfaces, mopping floors, and taking out trash
• Operate kitchen and bakery equipment as needed
• Follow recipes accurately and prepare menu items to standard specifications
• Assist with inventory, ordering, receiving deliveries, and storing supplies
• Provide customer service, including explaining menu items and processing payments
• Comply with all hygiene, safety, and sanitation regulations
• Support Discovery Day and other scheduled events as needed
• May perform cashiering duties and train or supervise Food Service I & II employees

Requirements/Skills:

• High School Diploma or GED preferred
• Culinary school diploma preferred
• Proven cooking experience with knowledge of various cooking techniques
• Ability to follow sanitation and food safety procedures
• Valid food handler’s permit or ability to obtain within required timeframe
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Basic computer skills and ability to operate a cash register
• First Aid/CPR certification preferred
• Ability to plan, organize, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines with minimal supervision
• Valid state driver’s license

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 lbs.
• Able to stand, walk, reach, bend, and stoop for extended periods
• Dexterity to operate kitchen tools and equipment
• Work may involve exposure to extreme heat or cold, bright/dim lighting, fumes, and loud noise
• Regular use of hands in hot water and cleaning chemicals
• Normal vision, hearing, and speech required
