FTS Houston is seeking skilled and experienced NETA Field Technicians for direct hire roles in Oklahoma and North Carolina.
This role involves performing testing, commissioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting of high-voltage substation equipment to ensure the safety and reliability of electrical power systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in electrical testing and maintenance, as well as extensive knowledge of industry standards, including NETA, IEEE, and NFPA. Successful candidates will be place in Technician I – Senior Technician titles commiserate with their certification and experience.
Duties and Responsibilities:
· Perform electrical testing services on power apparatus, substations, and switchgear included (but not limited to) the following:
o Protective relaying and relaying systems
o Circuit Breakers
o Power Transformers
o Current and Potential Transformers
o Meters, Transducers, and Power system metering
o Power Cables
o Grounding Systems
o Motors and Motor Starters
o Station Batteries and Chargers
o Alarm systems and Annunciators
o Personal Protective Equipment
· Perform troubleshooting and problem identification and analysis. Make recommendations regarding corrective action and/or repairs
· Generate technical reports detailing services provided, problems found, and corrective action taken or recommended
· Represent the company in a professional manner regarding communicating and interfacing with clients
· Communicate effectively with the company management team on a regular basis regarding project status and the scheduling of manpower and equipment
· Always make safety a top priority, realizing that the company has Zero Tolerance for those who do otherwise
· Other duties as required
Qualifications:
· Power DB knowledge a plus
· Broad knowledge of electrical AC/DC fundamentals (Electrical)
· Broad knowledge of the major components of a substation
· Broad knowledge of control and protection systems (Electrical)
· Knowledge of high-voltage electric field theory (Electrical)
· Broad knowledge of electrical code and standards (NEC, NESC, and applicable IEEE and ANSI) (Electrical)
· Broad knowledge of civil / structural codes and standards (NESC, and applicable IEEE, ANSI, AISC and ACI) (Civil / Structural)
· Broad knowledge of the function of major electrical equipment
· Broad knowledge of ground grid theory and design (Electrical)
· Effective oral and written communications
· Knowledge of the types of drawings required to construct an electrical substation
· Knowledge of drafting standards
· Working in a team environment
· Communicating effectively with co-workers
Education and/or Work Experience:
· NETA Certification (Level II, III, or IV) required.
· AAS in Electrical or Electronics Technology or equivalent experience in the high voltage industry
· Minimum of 2+ years’ experience in the high voltage industry
