Field Service Mechanic - Construction Equipment

Baton Rouge, LA: Flexicrew Technical Services (FTS) is seeking a Field Service Technician responsible for traveling to customer sites to diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical issues on large, heavy machinery like excavators, bulldozers, and cranes, performing maintenance tasks, replacing worn parts, and ensuring the equipment operates safely and efficiently according to manufacturer specifications.

Essential Duties:

• Diagnostics and Repairs:

• Identify malfunctions on heavy construction equipment through visual inspection, diagnostic tools, and listening to operating sounds.

• Troubleshoot issues with hydraulic systems, electrical components, engines, transmissions, and other mechanical systems.

• Disassemble and reassemble equipment to access and replace faulty parts.

• Perform necessary repairs including replacing bearings, seals, hoses, filters, and other components.

• Preventative Maintenance:

• Conduct routine maintenance checks on equipment, including lubrication, fluid level checks, and component inspections.

• Clean and maintain equipment to ensure optimal performance.

• Follow manufacturer's maintenance schedules and guidelines.

• Field Work:

• Travel to various construction sites to service equipment.

• Work in diverse weather conditions and challenging environments.

• Collaborate with construction crews to minimize downtime and ensure efficient operations.

• Documentation and Reporting:

• Maintain detailed service reports documenting repairs, parts used, and equipment condition.

• Communicate effectively with dispatchers and customers regarding service updates and repair needs.

Requirements/Skills:

• Technical knowledge: In-depth understanding of heavy equipment mechanics, hydraulics, electrical systems, diesel engines, and related components.

• Troubleshooting abilities: Strong diagnostic skills to identify the root cause of equipment malfunctions.

• Mechanical aptitude: Excellent understanding of mechanical principles and how different systems interact.

• Customer service skills: Ability to interact professionally with customers and address their concerns.

• Valid driver's license: To travel to different job sites.

• Pre-Employment Screenings: Must be able to successfully complete a pre-employment drug screen, background check, and MVR check.

Physical Requirements:

• Lifting: Ability to lift and move heavy equipment parts, tools, and components, with a typical weight limit around 50 pounds. 

• Mobility: Frequent bending, stooping, crouching, climbing, and walking on uneven terrain. 

• Manual dexterity: Fine motor skills to handle tools and small parts with precision. 

• Endurance: Ability to stand for extended periods and work in physically demanding conditions. 

• Vision: Good eyesight to read gauges, diagnose issues, and work in tight spaces.
