We are hiring for a Department Lead for a manufacturing firm on the Northside of Jacksonville. In addition to the role of skilled assembler, the candidate will also be trained to step in and oversee the department in the absence of the dept Supervisor and the dept Assist Supervisor.

Schedule: Monday thru Friday 7am-3:30pm (with mandatory overtime)

Pay: $23/hr

Job Duties of the Lead Assembly Tech:

  • Become knowledgeable on the criteria below that are necessary to step in and oversee a department- similar to what a Supervisor & Assistant Supervisor would do.

  • Know the basic fundamentals of the department- learn and understand the types of products made and where & how they're used

  • Help ensure that the department is run efficiently with a minimum amount of overtime but with adequate personnel coverage to ensure that quoted (or better) delivery dates are met

  • Read and understand production reports and schedules; this is critical for planning production

  • In the Supervisor's/Assist Supervisor's absences- schedule production using the production reports

  • Cross-train on and be able to perform all jobs in the department; fill in as needed in various positions

  • When asked, be involved in the training of new-hires & transfer employees & the cross-training of dept-workers training in & outside the dept- so that in the Supervisor's/Assist Supervisor's absences, you can rotate employees'-positions.

  • Help monitor & document all employee's overall performances so that if needed, you are able to help conduct twice yearly employee performance evaluations

  • In the Supervisor's/Assist Supervijsor's absences- direct employees, assist with their needs, and make general production and personnel decisions

  • Anticipate the department's needs, as well as the needs of its employees

  • In the Supervisor's/Assist Supervisor's absence- resolve customer service issues

  • Maintain good communications w/plant Supervisors / Prod Mgr / PM / HR rep / support staff / maintenance

  • Be flexible to changes in organizational and departmental procedures and ready to step in as needed

  • Work with Supervisor/Assist Supervisor to eliminate material waste while maintaining product-quality

  • Work closely with Supervisor/Assist Supervisor to help control & lower the department's operating costs

  • Participate in departmental Lean projects as required by the Supervisor

  • Participate as needed in plant Lean projects as requested by the Supervisor and/or PM

  • Help keep the overall department & its work areas clean, organized, and free of hazards

  • Comply-with and help enforce all Company & safety policies including wearing the required PPE

  • Be aware of and enforce LOCK-OUT/TAG-OUT; recognize LOTO-situations, & understand general LOTO

  • Help ensure that all department EEs and other cross-trained

  • Cross trained in multiple positions within the production department.

  • Work quickly to meet production goals.

  • Be able to read a tape measure to 1/16"

  • Read and follow instructions in English.

  • Be flexible to changes in organizational and departmental procedures

  • Load machines, lifting up to 50 pounds

 

Skills and Qualifications of the Assembly Tech:

  • Must have at least 3 year of Manufacturing experience.

  • Must speak and understand English. Spanish knowledge is a plus.

  • Must be able to read a tape measure.

  • Must have a strong knowledge of math and fractions.

  • Must be a team player.

  • Must be detail-oriented and have good organizational skills.

  • Must have reliable transportation.
