The Food Safety Manager will lead the development, implementation and continuous improvement of the food safety management system for the facility. This role ensures that all products manufactured, packed or distributed by Vita-Pakt meet applicable regulatory requirements, industry standards, and customer expectations for safety and quality. The incumbent will foster a strong food-safety culture, manage risk proactively, and coordinate across operations, quality, supply chain, and external partners.
Key Responsibilities
Develop, implement and maintain food safety policies, procedures and programmes (e.g., HACCP, GMP, allergen controls, sanitation).
Lead and coordinate food safety risk assessments and hazard analyses; identify critical control points and ensure monitoring, verification and corrective action systems are in place.
Ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations (e.g., FDA/FSMA, USDA when applicable), as well as customer and GFSI requirements.
Conduct internal audits and inspections of manufacturing, packaging, warehousing and distribution operations to verify adherence to safety and hygiene standards; prepare for third-party audits/certifications.
Manage and report on food-safety metrics, trends and corrective actions; work with cross-functional teams to drive continuous improvement.
Develop and deliver training programmes and awareness campaigns for plant employees, management and supply chain partners on food safety practices, hygiene, GMPs, allergen control and recall procedures.
Respond promptly to food-safety incidents, recalls, or product integrity issues; lead root-cause investigation, implement containment and corrective actions, and liaise with regulatory agencies as needed.
Collaborate with procurement/supply chain to assess, audit and manage suppliers and vendors to ensure raw materials meet safety and quality specifications.
Drive a culture of food safety and quality across the facility: lead the food-safety team or specialists, set priorities, coach and develop staff, coordinate with operations, engineering, maintenance, QA/QC and logistics.
Keep abreast of regulatory changes, industry trends, and best practices in food safety; propose updates to policies, systems or technologies to maintain compliance and competitive edge.
Support new product launches or process changes from a food safety and regulatory standpoint, ensuring design, validation and control measures are appropriately implemented.
