Are you an experienced Electrical Controls Engineer passionate about automation, motion control, and hands-on design for high-speed custom machinery? We're seeking a talented professional to join a high-impact engineering team dedicated to delivering cutting-edge solutions in the container handling and packaging automation industry. This is a direct hire role with a stable and growing equipment manufacturer known for advanced machine design and custom engineering excellence.
Position Overview:
This role involves full-cycle electrical controls engineering, including PLC/HMI programming, motion system design, panel build supervision, and equipment commissioning. You’ll contribute to the development of automation systems that drive the efficiency and reliability of custom high-speed production lines.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop PLC, advanced motion, and HMI code for new equipment using Rockwell/Allen Bradley platforms.
- Create electrical schematics using AutoCAD Electrical for both standard and custom automation equipment.
- Supervise the electrical panel build process and conduct daily reviews to ensure quality and compliance.
- Configure and integrate vision tools for orientation and feature detection in automated systems.
- Review specifications, provide project updates, and coordinate installation plans with customers.
- Create technical documentation including Operator and User Manuals and One Point Lessons.
- Travel (~15%) for installations, resolving field issues, and startup support.
- Ensure electrical designs meet UL standards and applicable codes.
- Coordinate cross-functionally with Sales, Applications, and Manufacturing teams.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related discipline.
- 5+ years of hands-on electrical controls design experience in an automation or machinery environment.
- Proven experience with cyclic rotary motion and Ethernet/IP networks.
- Knowledge of UL standards and electrical safety codes.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Analytical mindset with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex issues.
Preferred Competencies:
- Project management experience and cross-departmental coordination.
- Exposure to high-speed automated production systems.
- Strategic thinking for process improvement and system optimization.
Schedule:
Core weekday hours with some flexibility. Approximate travel requirement: 15% (domestic).
